I broke up with my boyfriend 2 weeks ago and I'm not dealing well at all. We were together for 5 years but it was very toxic! I feel so stupid for staying so long and letting someone treat me so bad. He had lived with me for most of the relationship and didnt start helping with rent until 6 months ago and when he did it was only $200 a month. For 5 years I paid for rent, provided food, paid utilitues and gave him rides. He refused to go shopping with me, barely took me anywhere, sat in his room and played video games, drank beer and smoked weed. He rarely helped with chores and only did stuff when it was convenient to him or when he knew I was upset. He threatened to leave when I brought up smoking in the house or if it had anything to do with him. I couldn't talk to him about anything. I was so afraid to approach him cause he'd threaten to leave. I have codependacy issues big time. He barely kept a job and any money he made after my $200 was for beer and weed. He didn't drive, couldn't cook or clean. Never did his taxes or even had a bank account. I mean he was basically a child. And yet through all of this, I felt he loved me. How dumb am I? I had enough of his mistreatment and his drinking problem. He was coming home drunk everyday. I feel like he had mental issues as well as alcoholism and that his family and me too had enabled his behavior. I feel he had a good heart but didn't have the skills to properly navigate life. So Im just full of emotion. I miss him a lot yet Im very disappointed in myself for being so stupid. Im not sure why im writing this. Im so embarrassed.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

At least you know you can handle living on your own with any issues.
Good thing you can see that he is going to use you all your life.
Sounds like he was physical as well.
I would change the locks, look for a new place to life, drop your social media for a while maybe 30 days, change your number.
Make a rule you will not allow him to contact you and use you for 90 days.
Dont worry about him or his things.
You need to get in a support group to help you with being strong.
It sounds like you have good things going for you, except you found a rotten apple.
Love yourself for all that you have done and can do.
Be proud that you have the strength to protect yourself.
As for answering his calls, I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but the absolute best thing for you is for him to be gone forever. You can't see clearly right now because it hasn't been long enough. Hang in there, stay strong now while it's hard, and one day you'll wake up and be so happy and relieved that you did.
Praying for you, God bless
First and foremost, be proud of yourself. What you did is very hard, and you did what was best for you. I know that it is hard to walk away from someone you love, but you have to love yourself more. You have to live for yourself! You matter and your happiness matters and you will get through it, even if it feel simpossible. Cry if you need to, go out and be social if you need to, hole up in your room with the tv if you want to. Do whatever makes you feel okay. And we are here if you need us.
Plenty of strong men will have no problems with you having kids.
Be strong for your own happiness, it will show your children your strength and how to live their life.
