For any of you who have been on the receiving end of the breakup, was there anything your ex said or could have said to make things any easier? And the opposite, were there things that made it worse? I don't know what I am going to say to him today but I know I need to do this

So I did tell him he had to leave yesterday. It went the same as every other time I have tried to leave except this time I left the house when all was said and done until I knew he was out of the house. I was honest in why I was leaving, He acted completely shocked and I spent 6 hours of him begging me to just talk to him. To stay together broken heart and all and let him fix it. The only 1 reason that he seemed to hold on to and refer back to was our communication and he is so sure that if I had actually tried talking to him that we wouldn't be splitting up. When his tears and his begging and all in between didnt work he went to the extreme telling me he will only be able to be a skype dad and that his whole life is ruined and that I have everything now and him nothing......I knew the aftermath would be hard but less than 24 hours I am a bag of mixed emotions and feel terrible for hurting him despite everything.

Before my wife died, I went to her bedside and told her whatever I had done to make her hate me all these years, to forgive me. I told her I didn't want her to die, hating me. Her last words to me were "everything is all right between you and me". Only her and God knows if this is true. She closed her eyes in a morphine induced sleep and died at 3:08am the next morning.

I feel like that was probably closure for you in a big way OLDBIKER. I definitely do not hate him or have ill feelings toward him, we just have not been compatible for a long time and I finally had to get out. I am definitely struggling today emotionally but I am most certain I am not the only one who has had these same feelings etc.

It is going to be hard. You are going g to doubt yourself. Write down some clear bullets on why you are leaving. Write a paragraph in what you want your life to look like in 1, 3, and 5 years. Keep it with you all the time. Read it. When you are lonely and tempted to take the easy way out by calling them - read your note.

Thanks for the advice strongandsilent. It has been less than 48 hours since I left him and he has already contacted me wanting to talk. When I ended things he begged me to think about a few things he brought up so I told him that I would think about them and get back to him in 3 or 4 days but that I would not be in contact any sooner than that. We will have to discuss the kids and how custody will work among other things obviously but it was quite aggravating getting a message within not even a day and a half.

I don't think words help anything. I hope you found closure,

Just thought I would join this group now that I am a widower. My wife passed away May 28th. She was "The Wind Beneath My Wings". When I met her, I was a drunken, dope smoking, fighting, hell raising biker. She told me if I could get rid of the inner storm within me, that I could be a blessing to people. God placed her in my path to stop me. I have been drug and alcohol free now for 53...

My husband and I got our foster license last month, after 3 years of hard work (we had to start over multiple times due to family dramas and Mom's open heart surgery). We spent a year preparing the whole house, guest rooms, and children's bathroom for older kids of 7 yr old and up. Then we got a call that we have been approved to receive twin newborn premies. What, what?!! Babies!? Premies?!...
