And he's probably not all that bad, now that the drinking is under control.
He still has his core issues though, as do I. Nothing will really change that. Those core issues for both of us got burried. Under STRESS. Under a child that we BOTH worried about intently. He was into denial, and dumped it all on me. I won't fault him for that. I remember how EXTREME the stress was.
I look back and think....what a waste. He was just a young kid. But we were two parents all alone in this city, with NO help. I got burried under lack of sleep. My brain shut down...and voila. Believe me...shut down my emotions totally. And at times I found my bad girl myself.
My ex still can't deal with the stress of the kids. He sleeps until noon. If the kids are all getting along at his place .....then great. But her oldest two have issues, and he's (and apparently her) are letting my two and her youngest go it alone in the morning...then coming out and just yelling if things don't go smooth.
I fault none of the kids. And actually feel worst for her youngest, a 5 year old boy, who's apparently taken to a lot of swearing lately. Sadly his mom pushed him to it about 6 months ago. I've never laid eyes on this boy....this is just from what I'm reading through the lines of what my kids say.
I worry for them ALL growing up to be either TOO nice (pushover...which is often passive-aggressive), or TOO bad. Learning how to care about others without going too far should be a part of growing up. Seriously. I remember being lost and clueless.
And I remember taking any bit of love I could get, because I didn't feel loved or worthy of anything.
Raising kids takes time and patience. And in this world of two careers and divorce....there's less of that than ever.
But the fact that you don't have it in you to cheat, even in extreme circumstances, makes you a nice guy. That is a very good thing.
And doing the right thing isn't easy. ie-not reporting your finger injury. Its a choice....... But if you have this lil thing called a conscience.......(not everyone has one btw,) its the only way you can live with yourself.
Oh and as for the "bad guy" thing......if they do have a conscience, being an ass does bother them...... I still stick by, "everyone has their own shit going on, some are just better at hiding it than others."
Just my ramblings........
Being used? Knowing it and realizing it, then accepting it and moving on to the next level is a positive step in the right direction.
