One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
And the Lord was Denis Leary. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Well, boot prints.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, Denis Friggin Leary, AKA, the Lord, was not around. I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, "WTF DUDE? You promised me (I have it in writing, and my lawyer is eyeballing as we speak) Lord, that if I followed you, and read that big black book, and threw a couple token praise be's you would walk with me always. NOT sometimes, not when you weren't hung over, not in your copious free time, ALWAYS!
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life that there have only been ONE count 'em ONE set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you decide to pull a HOUDINI on my ass?"
The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when you were binge eating. You remember that? NOT PRETTY. I mean, I am the Lord and all, but you know how hard it is to just walk in the sand by myself? My sandals hurt my feet, I have blisters, I couldn't OKAY. So waddle yourself off to the gym, and seek counseling, then come back, and I will walk next to you again. MMMKAY?"
