If not - we were all going to hell, since we were going to hell any way for voting "democrat".
I threatened to sue. They baptized her and at the last minute (when we were holding her at the altar) they tried to marry us. I told the priest I wouldn't pay him, he changed his little speech to a "family blessing".
I have not been back since.
If the my parish did not baptize my son (I was not married in a Catholic church), I was fully prepared to switch out of Catholicism. But to my parish's credit, I ran into no resistance because of that. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure if they asked if my ex and I were even married. They asked us to go to a couple of classes and they baptized him with no muss or fuss.
1st one was run off because he gave masses in Spanish. He was very popular because he truly cared about people. The head honcho priest got jealous and said he had to leave. HALF the congregation went with him!
2nd priest was another sweet man. Everyone loved him and wanted him to do all ceremonies, he was invited to homes, parties etc. Again, head priest got jealous and had him mysteriously bumped because there was no money in the budget for two priests. WTH?
Let it be known that BOTH of those evil head priests left the church in shame for having AFFAIRS with women in the congregation ONE of whom was married.
People in glass houses...............
I had to fill out some paperwork and he had to ask some really hard questions. It was a tough hour and I cried all the way through it. He was very kind and truly made me feel so much better about what had transpired in my abusive marriage. and no, it does not mean your children are invalid either. that was my main concern and he explained otherwise.
All in all it will cost me about $50. Im willing to do it because he was absolutely right.. the minute he put his hands on me in rage and slept with other women was the minute it became invalid in MY eyes too. And like Hiker said... the big man upstairs already knows the truth in all that happened. It also means I can marry again, in my church, if I wish to do so.
I'm athiest, but believe that marriage should last forever. I try to be good in all that I do, but I'm imperfect like everyone. I have always given my kids the option of going to religious classes with friends. My daughter took me up on it, and I got her a Bible. My ex, the "Christian" is given and out in Christian divorce....ok to divorce the athiest. Hmm. Yet he's never gone to church the whole time we were together...20 years. And he's taken time to let either kid go to bible school if they wanted...too busy with having fun himself.
Whatever, if there is a god, they'll see how I've conducted my life....and do with me what they will.
Personally, I think it's better to be a questioning skeptic than a blind, mindless follower; especially in matters of religion and politics.
My 1st boyfriend, Gary, was from a Catholic home. His Mom and Dad had 3 kids; Mom put dad through school. When he finely started making money (he was an orthodontist) he left her for his dental hygenist, moved her into the house his wife designed and had his marriage annualed so the new wife would be happy and could marry in the church. It literally killed Gary's Mom; she was very catholic and the church basically allowed her husband to buy a "we were never really married" card. She ended up in a mental hospital and died very young of a broken heart.
Bad enough your husband abandons you, but when your church does too? Not O.K. as far as I'm concerned.
How could they even have the audacity to step into church?
