My ex just sent me a copy of the final decree today in the mail. Apparently the divorce is officially final. Ugh.
I don't know how to feel right now. I knew that this was coming and I know that I am better off. Still, part of me is incredibly sad once I saw the final decree. I don't know why.
I know that there are things in life that we want but we can't have. We usually aren't given these things because we are better off without them. I know that my marriage was one of these things and it was poisoning my life. Why, then, does it sadden me to know that it is totally over?
The good memories I have of my marriage (the first few years) are rough to think about today because we shared so much. At one time we were both happy with each other. Where did that go and how did it get lost?
The fact that I am now a statistic doesn't sit well with me either. I never wanted this to happen and when we got married we agreed that this would never happen. I wasn't that bad of a guy, why does she want me out of her life? All she can tell me is that we are different people.
Oddly, I have no ill feelings towards her. I can still be friendly with her but I know that it would be incredibly hard to see her in person. I am glad to be out of that area and not run the chance of seeing her again or seeing her with someone else (that would be much worse).

Who knows why we must visit hell from time to time. Maybe it is so that Heaven seems much sweeter or maybe it is because if we didn't know what hell was like then we wouldn't know what bad really is.
Tender moments that we shared are just pain now. The dream was so strong at one point and now it is ashes.
But out of the ashes arose the great Phoenix.
A phoenix is a mythical bird with a tail of beautiful gold and red plumage (or purple and blue, by some sources [1]). The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible it is also said that it can heal a person with a tear from its eyes and make them temporarily immune to death; It is a symbol of fire and divinity
I never understood the song The Way We Were, until after the divorce. Eventually it does get better and the happy memories become less painful.

Of course you didn't want things to end this way - you're a stand-up guy. A fighter with integrity and morals. I don't know you all that well, but that much is evident. Think of how lucky the next woman in your life is going to be after all that you have learned and grown. My ex, her "unhappiness" and her actions that led to divorce showed me she does not deserve the "better me" in the future. Someone else who reciprocates my values, does.

Things will improve and they already have. It is just a day of fustrations because of dead ends on the job search as well.
Do you find it ironic that everyone talks about national security as they cut the budgets of many law enforcement agencies? The local, county, and State law enforcement agencies are the first link in national security because they are the first responders.
