Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
In the end, I finally took off the rose colored glasses and saw that the strain and stress of it was effecting my youngest son, then 11, more negatively. We'd not shared a bed in 2 years at that point and we're living like roommates who shared 2 sons; an 11 yr old and 19 yr old.
So I got my nerve up, reminded myself that I'd been the one providing Financially for the household for 75% of our marriage, that I was the one who "taxi'd" the boys around to various Dr.'s, School and afterschool activities, sports, etc. The only thing ex-hubby did was sports. And remembered that as far as my health went, I was the one who manged it and took care of things on my own anyways....so I could do all of this on my own, take care of me, take care of my youngest son, all by myself.....with out having to deal with an alcoholic and his affairs and toxicity 24/7.
So I did, I got a Condo, told him the next day I'd be moving out within 7/10 days and didn't look back. Never had a 2nd thought about it, I've been happily divorced for 8 years. In NC you have to be separated for 1 full year before you can start Divorce Proceedings. Within 4 months of our separation he was with another woman, moved into her place, and they were married shortly after our Divorce was final. I think he's her 4th husband. But that's the kind of guy he his, he has to have someone there to "take care of him."
My only regret is that my youngest son had a rough time through it. My oldest was already on his way to College and out of the house. My youngest lived with me the first 2 years and saw his dad on the weekends. Then he switched and stayed with his dad during the week and stayed with me on the weekends, because he wanted to go to the High School where his dad lived for their Football program. I didn't take into account the manipulation and pure evil that was his Stepmother. Over a 2 year period they had turned my child into someone I didn't even recognize. They'd filled his head with nasty lies about me, and created so much tension and anger in my once "loving, kind, docile" child. By the time he was 16 I was lucky to see him once a month. To this day our relationship is strained. He's out of that house now and in University, so we're working on getting it repaired, but it's taking time. Sorting through all of the lies, anger and hurt. We still have quite a ways to go.
So that's in, in a nutshell. I don't see what you have to stay for, except to cause yourself more misery.
Take care,
Kat
