Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
His actions are not matching up with what he is saying...I don't want to hurt you....I don't want to be intimate with you...those two things don't jive. You are not the first person to go through this situation. Should it come to divorce, well....I'm here to tell you it's not a death sentence...you can make it to the other side. Hang in there (((HUGS)))
So that is much different than him saying accept this forever. Also, on the hug, yes, I would say this is normal, he has already said he is putting you in the friend zone. Abide by his wishes for now and don't hug him anymore. I'm suggesting this to protect YOU because the rejection hurts and will make you feel worse.
Once you start your counseling, hopefully you can find a good counselor to guide you on this. Perhaps over time your husband will see a change in you and jump onboard. I know you are angry at him for what he has done, but right now he is going through a break up. All you have to do is read some posts around here and see what it does to someone. It may sound like I'm taking his side, believe me, I am not. I just think right now any attempts you make towards intimacy will just backfire and make you the bad guy in all this.
Again, I'm praying the counselor you have chosen is a great fit for you. (((HUGS))) Hang in there
He's angry because he doesn't get to play with his favourite toy anymore. He's in the fog still, and perhaps talking to your therapist can help you see that. He resents that he's been caught. He is not remorseful and without that, you can't reconcile, not even a friendship, let alone a marriage. And I'm not sure forcing a square peg into the round hole, is going to work.
You're trying to fix it, but you can't. He has to fix himself, and you have to fix yourself first and foremost. Once you are both along your way of being fixed, for lack of a better term, you will be in a better place to decide whether you want to work on the marriage, or separate. There's no express or overnight deliveries, LOL. At the moment he doesn't want to let go of her memory and he is cherishing her in his mind, and you can't compete with this. The more you want him to let go of her, the harder he's going to hold on.
He needs to express to you and out loud, that what he did was wrong in every sense. He needs to come to realize that it is not acceptable under any circumstances, and that he is now in the doghouse for doing it, not you. It doesn't seem like he's even come close to this. He's attempting to sweep all the feelings around it under the rug, and that's never a good thing longterm. To be honest, this isn't the time to be letting him crawl away without getting to the bottom of it, or it will come back to bite you in the ass.
