Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
I am due to have my first child within days. My boyfriend and I of 1.5 years have known each other for almost 20 years, and became pregnant just after 9 months by surprise. We were broken up at the current time of finding out I was with child.
Since then, the abusive relationship has become deliriously challenging and worsens every day. I am constantly battling his emotional manipulation and verbal abuse. I know it is in my best interest to end the relationship permanently. But with having a baby in the next few days, the both of us being financially strapped, and also living together- it’s impossible. Plus— I love him. I can’t deny it. Even in the abuse. I know his heart. I know him. And look at me! Making excuses for his behavior.
DAILY I am questioned about other men. Even in all the time of my pregnancy. My announcement of this was followed with a “the child isn’t mine” response and I have been doing all I can to prove so to him throughout this process. I have NEVER been unfaithful to him and he believes I am. He will look for anyone to stick to me to find me unfaithful: coworkers, neighbors, bosses, old friends, exes, his friends, etc. My family has been nothing but supportive through this pregnancy as I hide the deep emotional/verbal abuse from them, as bad as that is. He finds a way to hate everyone in my family. He’s isolated me from my friends and fills my head with BS to steer my heart toward HIS pain.
Everything revolves around his feelings. Every day I am battling relentless questions: including my finances, where I go, looking through my phone, accuses me of other men over and over and over. He asks the questions, I give the answers, and I am deemed a liar. No matter what. I go to lunch with my mom, right? Nope. I’m lying in his eyes.
He constantly LOOKING for trouble. On top of all this, daily I am called a whore, skank, slut, fatass, manipulating bitch, psycho, cow. You name it. He’s even progressed to small acts of violence. Throwing things at me and stating I apply “self inflicted wounds.” He’s pushes me. Thrown me out of our bedroom. Slammed me into a wall. This evening, he got my pregnant tummy pretty good with his hand when he was snatching my phone.
I’ve made reports to crime check. I’ve recorded videos of his behavior and saved his incredibly abusive texts. Everything I am stating is worse than how it sounds. The mental and verbal abuse is more than I can take- to the point of me actually HITTING him. He threw something at me and it hit my arm. My automatic response was to smack him. I bloodied his nose. I am crying all day, every day. Hysterically and without control. I barely eat. I hardly sleep. I feel so crazy in my head. So trapped. And completely dumbfounded at myself when he comes crawling back with flowers, apologies, I love you’s, and affection. Like, I would rather have him like this in my life than not at all.
I know in days to come when our baby is born that I will have a different reason and will to live my life. I will never endanger this child to the horrible abuse I have allowed for almost two years of my life. The amount of stress I’ve caused this baby in my pregnancy alone is enough, if baby isn’t affected already.
I have no one to talk to. No one to turn to. I know what I deserve and somehow, every time, he’s convinced my sick mind and low self worth that everything is my fault. I don’t know what to do anymore.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

It will start slow. In fact, for many years you'll think that your child is just fine. Adjusting. Kids are adaptable. And when he/she gets to be about 12-13...it will all explode. You'll blame it on them being a "teenager".
Well I've got two teenagers now. And they're the joys of my life. I'm flat out loving these years the best of all. All of the sacrifices have become worth it a thousand times over.
Please leave.
You're strong, you can do what needs to be done,
I wish both you and your child the best, Patti
Contact a domestic violence hotline, speak to a social worker at the hospital you plan on delivering at. They will connect you with resources to help you
As someone who knows this first hand having just gotten out of an abusive relationship, while not acceptable, an adult can rationalize what is happening. A child cannot. My son is the number one reason I left my relationship
Best of luck to you and your baby. Here is you always need a friend
You do have someone to turn to, you have family who you say are supportive. If it's pride getting in your way from reaching out for help, then just throw it away. Use your brain - times are dangerous for your and your child. You have family to rely on. That's your ticket to safety. Restart your life. Maybe this baby will give you the self confidence you need to make these changes in your life.
I just have to say your BF disgusts me, using your low self esteem to control you. He's a piece of $hit. Sorry, I don't usually respond to posts like this, but when there's a baby involved, there's no time to be gentle. It's time for a reality check. Good luck to you and your baby.
Is this what you want your child living in? Is this what you want your child learning love is? Pain, fear, terror? When you're a parent its not about what you want anymore, you can say you love this guy, too much to leave him.....but your child doesn't have a choice, your child rely's on you his/her mommy to do whatever it takes to keep him safe in this world. Do you think your BF is going to miraculously turn into this amazing father who doesn't terrorize his child like he does you? Not likely.
You need to wake up and realize that very soon you'll have a little person who will rely on you for every single thing in its world, every little thing it needs to be safe and to live...that will be your job. Babies aren't tough like you think you are because you can live with the abuse, it doesn't take a very hard blow to end a babies life. You have a mom and family, find a way to find someone to stay with until you and your baby can get on your feet, there are many social services programs that can help you. But do what's right by your child and get the hell out of that house and away from that guy.
You guys stated my hearfelt thoughts to the T. Kranren everyone knows
you love this individual- but why should you he does not love himself-he is not capable of loving you or your precious about to be baby,This is harsh- we are sometimes not strong I get it-but get this as long as you are willing to live with
you are to blame for the environment you bring this baby into. But when this baby is born I think like you said your maternal mommy instincts will kick in and
should kick into overdrive.Check this out you are just as guilty right now as him-I know this may sound harsh but listen-when you love someone that is
abusing you it means your TOTALLY blind- tell your family he has been abusive- if you dont want to go into detail ok but tell them-they will be your
back up if you do not tell them it means you are an enabler. He needs to be exposed not being malicious but it is healthy to do so-lots of love sent your
way and baby and seriously the guy needs therapy-if you have to go to your family and STAY there and tell him get help and start that process or its
curtains for him seeing that baby,Yes it is good also to document the abuse
and have a paper trail.Get out of the hell.
When a woman chooses to stay in an abusive relationship, people around notice but tend to assume she's chosen. You sound smart and I doubt people see you as stupid or clueless.
When people see a baby in an abusive home, they tend to make anonymous calls to CPS...are you willing to risk possibly having your baby taken away from you so he can be in a safe home?
I truly hope that your mothering instincts kick in and you choose to keep your child safe before someone else decides to do it for you.
