21 years is long enough to suffer his control and mental cruelty. Why did I Stay so long? Eternal hope I guess which now seems so foolish. I tried to leave before but financially couldn't do it. This time I'm determined the children are all grown and gone and I have no reason to stay with a man who does not love me and is cruel to me. So the search is on for a home I can afford. This time i'm determined! Ive had enough! The children are all grown and gone and i have no reason to stay with a man who does not love me and is cruel to me. I'm sad but know I'm doing the right thing.

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. Perfect summation!!!
Of course, I am one to say, try to work it out. Talk to each other before walking away. Check in with some counseling, etc. Do what you can to work it out together before walking away. Its fair to let the other person know you are not happy and also fair to give the other person a chance to correct any behavior that is contributing to the souring of the marriage and in return work towards being a better person for the marriage and life. If they want that is.
So make sure to let him know you are unhappy so he doesn't act blind sided and hateful. If that does not change his behavior towards you, then prepare and plan for what you are now stating you want. Peace and freedom from an abusive spouse.
