Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
But insane isn't isn't our illness. I'm bipolar, I'm an alcoholic. I'm not insane and I'm not a lush.
The same goes for my physical illness. At this time, I am nearing the state of being physically crippled, but I am still slightly mobile, and I despise it. I want to either be healthy, or be hospitalized.
I guess I hate being bipolar because people can never get close to me because I'm, no pun intended, polar opposite each time we meet.
I usually say I'm a Manic Depressive cos Bipolar in speech sounds too limp-wristed and wussy.
I jump up and down on one leg and slather a lot too.
Why this odd belief BP isn't on par with schizophrenia as far as crazy goes? I agree schizophrenia is a dreadfully tragic affliction though. Extreme mania & schizophrenia look pretty similar..that psychotic rambling blends...my first DX was schizophrenia x
It's the same with HIV. I am also HIV+ and I get that whole 'it's nothing to live with HIV these days'...it's like everyone tries to sugar-coat things for people who are suffering because they think it 'makes us feel better'.
Maybe we NEED those labels. Maybe we need to embrace FACTS and grow instead of go around pretending like 'we're just fine' and 'it's not that bad'.
I wish people would stop assuming that they know what is best for others without being in their shoes first.
