Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
At the height of mania before I was diagnosed , I thought it was fun to completely disregard all rules of fashion -- like wearing shoes that didn't match and outlandish clashing colors and patterns. For some reason, I thought a cheese grater would make a nice accessory, so I tied one around my neck like a necklace!
I was going out in public like this. One nite, I wandered into an art gallery, and people thought I was one of the exhibits!!!
Honest to God, this really happened. It's good to laugh about it now.
I stole my dad's 30-30 lever action rifle and figured out how to load and shoot it. I took it to Wal-Mart and called the cops on myself. It was strange because later, the police said, I was the ONLY one who called 911..
I fired the gun in the parking lot on accident, re-loaded and cocked it. I wasn't intending to shoot anyone, just to provoke the police into shooting me. Police descended on the store. I caught one near the infants department and hollered at him. He turned around, saw the gun, and lunged at me. We both went down, I struggled to keep control of the gun, but it wound up sliding about 30ft away from us. The cop somehow got his knee in my back and cuffed me.
Before I knew it, there were cops everywhere, trying to keep other people away from the scene. They asked me questions, but I refused to answer. I wouldn't even tell them my name. I was just completely out of it-- psychotic. When they searched me, they found eight bullets in my pocket.
I went to jail, then to the hospital for a drug test, then to a mental hospital. (They eventually got me to tell them the whole story).
I spent 31 days in jail...was found not guilty by reason of insanity and sent to a mental hospital for two months.
It was a terrible experience...I got fired from my job at Wal-Mart...and the manager that I fought with all the time left and moved somewhere out of state. I think she thought I had been planning to kill her.
If I'd wanted to go on a shooting spree, it would've been easy...but all I wanted was to die.
I swear this happened...I have copies of the newspaper reports in my journal on this site.
It was a very embarassing moment.
Once I went to the mall with my then boyfriend to see a movie. I was concerned with my weight then ( in that obsessive way young girls are). Bf went to get tickets while I looked at the movie ads on a column nearby. To see the posters down toward the bottom I had to squat. Thought it was a good idea to actually do squats so I could see all of the posters one after the other. I did this on three of four sides of the column before my boyfriend appeared looking a bit weirded out. He turned out to be my husband and teases me about it to this day.
A cheese grater? That definitely wouldn't suit your picture profile. I'd of gone with a necklace of imitation tiger teeth, imitation no need to be cruel to animals. Maybe even a weird had, I done that one too.
My recent self expression is become but my daughter thinks it's a tad too young. I'm hanging on the work TAD.
I was engaged to a crack addict contractor and he agreed that taking the roof off the house to rebuild it three feet higher up because it was Oppressing Me was a great idea. No building permit, no permission from the neighborhood association and I got in trouble with the town because it was a historical house.
I got into the hospital because I called the cops on myself. I said I was thinking of jumping off the roof because I was pretty sure I could fly. The officer let me pack a bag before carting me off and all I put in it were some pajama bottoms, one high heeled sandal, a can of dog food, and the third Harry Potter book.
