Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hi everyone,
I'm currently a sophmore in college with Bipolar 1, I live in an apartment with two other girls who I was friends with and earlier in October I had my worst depressive episode yet. It lasted around a week and during that time neither roomate showed any kind of support, I was hurt because I thought they were my friends so I went home for 2 weeks to a safe environment where I could rebuild. Since I've been back I'm putting more time into myself and trying to devolp healthy habits while also getting a bit better at acknowledging any progress forward. But the one problem is one of my roomates clearly doesn't respect me anymore, to eleborate she treats me like a little sibling by constanly correcting almost everything I say, barely or not responding when I say something to her and my personal favorite is that she wont look me in the eye when the three of us are talking. I gotta say the no eye contact when I speak or ask something makes me feel so incredibly small and like I dont matter at all. Ive dealt with mean girls in the past and this behavior from her brings back painful memories and is making it harder to make positive progress with these daily setbacks. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar and found successful coping mechanisms and/or a way to stand up to a mean girl
Thank you and wishing everyone well

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I've seen that awkwardness around people from different countries, religions etc. They often freeze when they meet someone in a wheelchair for the first time. They'll do it to the widowed or someone with cancer (it reminds them of their own mortality).
While that might explain it, it doesn't really excuse some people's ability to make some other people effectively invisible.
All we can do is to find our own tribe if possible, possibly try and educate if appropriate and to remember this when we meet people who are different and maybe make us feel a bit uncomfortable.
I think fish also said it well with 'find your own tribe'.... Well put..... Big hug.... I'm really sorry that you've been hurt.... xo
I'm still trying to rationalize it, Im hoping its the state of the world and instead of trying to work through that stress she's pinning it towards me. That I understand instead of how she's currently acting like a middle school bully.
Don't let others pull you down. I had to change my friends and found ones who understood. One, who also had physical and mental challenges and the other whose spouse was dying of cancer. Another friend also used a wheelchair like I did. It's great having friends you can be real and honest with and don't judge you for it. It can be hard to find. Perhaps you can be friends with 1 of the 2? Maybe there's a support group on campus or nearby so you can meet some empathetic people in person…… Best wishes XO
The next time she gets condescending you could just address it .... " you seem to be correcting me an awful lot"..... " can you look at me when I'm talking to you?"
"Is there a problem here?"... I don't think that any of these are unreasonable comebacks and neither are they aggressive but it may stop this crap she's pulling
