Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I applied for a job as a mental health advocate and it appears that I'm one of the people that they are seriously considering. I have a video interview next Wednesday. Anyway, I got to thinking that putting myself out there like that could be detrimental. One of the requirements of being an advocate is that you are OK with your name being used in blog posts and press releases which is my concern. It would mean that people would know about me having bipolar disorder.
Personally, I think doing this would be something to be proud of and something that will make my husband and sons proud. I don't want them to spend their whole lives wondering why we can't talk about mama's "brain illness". My 4 year old isn't quite to the point of understanding bipolar disorder, but understands that I take medicine to keep my brain healthy and I go to the doctor every Thursday night to help me learn how to keep living a healthy life.
Anyway, what are your thoughts? Does anyone else think this is brave or is this just some stupid big idea thing that will do more harm than good?

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
The advocate programs I have brushed up against looked impressive in passing. Never seen 'em up close and personal, but I love the idea.
Even though I can't do that for a living anymore I still Volunteer with Teens who Self-Injure and Young Adults newly diagnosed BiPolar and I make sure they all know that I'm BiPolar and have a history of Self Injury. I don't need to be perfect to help others, and if anyone in my personal life or Social Circle have an issue with it, then I don't need them in my life. Perfect is not something I subscribe to or ever raised my children to subscribe to or expect from others. Compassion is what I expect my children of offer to others regardless of their differences...and the non-perfect people of the world are always way more interesting.
Embrace your true self, when your son is old enough, teach him that people are different and everyone deserves respect, compassion and kindness. If this position is what you want, I hope you get it!!

My in-laws, especially my mother-in-law, seems to think having bipolar disorder is embarrassing and makes someone unemployable. She's in HR mind you. I would think it's discrimination to deny employment due to a disability, but I am sure there are ways around that one. Her and my father-in-law are set in their ways.
