In biology, evolution is change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms from one generation to the next. These changes are caused by a combination of three main processes: variation, reproduction, and selection. Genes that are passed on to an organism's offspring produce the inherited traits that are the basis of evolution. These traits vary within populations, with organisms showing heritable differences in their traits. When organisms reproduce, their offspring may have new or altered traits. These new traits arise in two main ways: either from mutations in genes, or from the transfer of genes between populations and between species. In species that reproduce sexually, new combinations of genes are also produced by genetic recombination, which can increase variation between organisms. Evolution occurs when these heritable differences become more common or rare in a population.
Two major mechanisms drive evolution. The first is natural selection, a process causing heritable traits that are helpful for survival and reproduction to become more common in a population, and harmful traits to become more rare. This occurs because individuals with advantageous traits are more likely to reproduce, so that more individuals in the next generation inherit these traits.[1][2] Over many generations, adaptations occur through a combination of successive, small, random changes in traits, and natural selection of those variants best-suited for their environment.[3] The second major mechanism is genetic drift, an independent process that produces random changes in the frequency of traits in a population. Genetic drift results from the role probability plays in whether a given trait will be passed on as individuals survive and reproduce. Though the changes produced in any one generation by drift and selection are small, differences accumulate with each subsequent generation and can, over time, cause substantial changes in the organisms. This process can culminate in the emergence of new species.[4] Indeed, the similarities between organisms suggest that all known species are descended from a common ancestor (or ancestral gene pool) through this process of gradual divergence.[1]
Evolutionary biology documents the fact that evolution occurs, and also develops and tests theories that explain its causes. Studies of the fossil record and the diversity of living organisms had convinced most scientists by the mid-nineteenth century that species changed over time.[5][6] However, the mechanism driving these changes remained unclear until the 1859 publication of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, detailing the theory of evolution by natural selection.[7] Darwin's work soon led to overwhelming acceptance of evolution within the scientific community.[8][9][10][11] In the 1930s, Darwinian natural selection was combined with Mendelian inheritance to form the modern evolutionary synthesis,[12] in which the connection between the units of evolution (genes) and the mechanism of evolution (natural selection) was made. This powerful explanatory and predictive theory directs research by constantly raising new questions, and it has become the central organizing principle of modern biology, providing a unifying explanation for the diversity of life on Earth.[9][10][13]
To say you don't believe in evolution is nothing short of stupid. There is a big difference between evolution and the Big Bang theory. Some people really need to go back to school. You can easily believe in evolution and still be a christian.

I've never been to a church were there weren't openly gay people as members. My husband who is a pastor is going to write a sermon on homosexuality. I'll send it to you when he does.

Hell is a control mechanism designed by the Church set with arbitrary rules for who and who doesn't go. The rules are all based in sociological context of the BRONZE AGE and have no bearing on modern society or any rational sense.
There is undoubtedly a heaven, or an afterlife, but even that afterlife won't be how you believe it to be. Think of the nicest most wonderful place you can possibly think of. OK, now think of spending eternity there. That shit would get really fucking boring.
NO place is heaven. EARTH, IS HEAVEN. Heaven is the experience of interacting with others and the wonderful gift of this incredible roller coaster ride. We as bipolar individuals are even further blessed because we get intense emotional ups and downs that others don't get to experience. Isn't it wonderful? I love life. I'm in Heaven every day. Pain, suffering, joy, achievement, success, fulfillment, love, learning, they are all beautiful things.
Everybody makes mistakes. That's what makes us human. Adam and Eve made mistakes (not that they probably ever existed, just part of the bullshit control mechanism story made up by the institution of the Church). But even murderers can be sorry for their actions and truly pray for forgiveness.
You want to know what Hell is? Living in hate, and mistrust, and jealousy, and spite to other people.
You people with your heaven and hell talk need to seriously do some contemplation about the nature of a duality of afterlives. Heaven and hell are both right here on earth, you get to decide which one you are in every day.

On a side note, scientists recently discovered a new species of human, thought to be the missing link between the australopithecus and the genus homo(human).
Also, they recently found new species in the ocean, never before observed. They also found evidence of human's impact on ocean life, so it is possible that we have screwed up the environment so much that we are completely changing the ecosystem, starting with marine life. It was mentioned earlier that evolution and adaptation are separate ideas, but there is a correlation. If the environment changes, animals must adapt to survive. However, if the adaptation includes changes in the species so much so that they have separated themselves from the rest of the species and become a new species, evolution has occured. The thing is, adaptation is something we can see in our short lifetime. Evolution takes much longer so we do not always see the whole picture, hence why we must look at fossils.
Also, my final comment here, scientists are speculating that the Y chromosome is going extinct. They have speculated about this for a while. Research on marsupials have shown that other male chromosomes will step up to take the place of Y to make males male, so it is possible that eventually the species will split between those with Y chromosomes and those without, spawning a new species. It will be interesting for future generations to see if any of these theories hold up.
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.
Natural selection is a scientifically observable phenomenon that can be easily documented through genetics.
For instance, humans have the genes and (tailbone) bones for a tail, however we have no tails. The only conclusion one can make is that we USED to have tails, and they have since become obsolete since we moved out of the trees and onto two legs.
In another blatantly obvious example of evolution at work, chickens have the genes to create teeth, even though they only have a small beak, indicating leftover genetic material from past ages.
Creationism has literally no scientific evidence supporting it, and it does not follow the scientific method. If you believe in creationism one must rationally assert that you do not believe in science.
The old realm of Christianity is dying. The religion itself is beginning to evolve. See Roman Catholic Church and their support for Darwin's ideas and the abandonment of creationism, as well as forgiving Galileo for his "blasphemous" observations. The church has been wrong so many times before. The ideals of Christianity are great but the institution in practice is a load of horseshit.
I dont need any Church to have a connection with God. I pray.
