Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
As someone who is bipolar I have struggled with the connection of my disorder and the use of pornography. I'm aware of the relationship between a hieghtened sexual drive when manic and the resulting correlation between that and increased porn use. I am also aware of the fact that I use porn as a way to cope/deflect/manage feelings and emotions. I know that other people use porn in the same way.
There was a period of time when I worried about this possibly being an addiction to sex and porn. I have recently come to the conclusion that it is not, and is instead directly related to bipolar disorder. I bring this up because of the amount of time I spent questioning and the lack of concrete answers available. I am convinced that I was scared into thinking I had a problem. I was scared by the overwhelming majority of people that want to claim that all porn is bad and that if you use it you are bad. It was poor reasoning on my part, but reason can be clouded when you are in a mood state. I hate bipolar, it's fun!
Anyway, I am just curious if anyone else has a similar experience and if we could share points of view.

When i was in the ER February 16th 2025, i was being admitted to ICU where i was for 3 weeks, then had to relearn to walk for 3 weeks in another hospital rehab floor, the nurse told me something that made me feel for over 18 months now that i was finally *safe*. She told me that the guy who raped and beat me 21 years ago now almost 20 years at that time, was in prison as of a month before that...

Sometimes, I think I have ODD. I can be oppositional. It seems that the only times that I feel like cleaning are when I should be doing something else or I have to go somewhere. Well, not everytime but most of the time. Yesterday, I was supposed to be doing online training for work but instead, I decided to work on my kitchen table. Most of the time, I don't know where to start and give...

To my senses, the controversy is downright destructive to objective analysis.
Forgive me if I misread and have gone off topic. . .
Whether it's an addiction or not surely this is something you need to do something about rather than try and lay the blame at bipolar's door?
If it's bipolar then obviously it would stop when you are not in an episode.
If you can abstain from pornography for a week or a month then it isn't an addiction.
In my case I use lithium and it works. No hyper-sexuality, no risky sex, no porn addiction and no guilt. Now what's for lunch?
Now a days websites can stream HD video etc. Meh. I don't have a collection on my hard drives anymore. Ill maybe gander at a website and look a bit..but meh. I can take it or leave it. I am not super hung up on it. I am sure everyone looks at it almost. Well most guys anyway. I tend to think men are more visual. Like in primitive times....or cave man days. Men were the hunters....using their vision to bring food home dunno..... lol.
If you have an addition to the subject matter that limits your lifestyle..then yea you have to address that.
Oh, one quick embarrassing story. At my last job (a blood bank). I heard this one employee had a presentation infront of a large audience and for some reason his company laptop had porn on it..and it autoloaded in the middle of his slide show presentation. Needless to say....he was fired.
Being a computer person, you got to keep your worlds separated. Don't view porn on company computers and drives lol....
I like the idea of positive change. I think that was in there somewhere.
