Ooh...zsa. I used to read a lot of E.A Poe. I should maybe get some of that out and read it again. I think of The Cask of Amontillado a lot. I don't know why. It's probably some fear of mine that I have hidden somewhere in my mind.....

I also love To Kill a Mockingbird, and Pride and Prejudice is my favorite. I've read other girly ones like Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, My Antonia, Little Women, Little Men, all of the Little House on the Prairie books, and I read Fahrenheit 451 in high school.

I've always wanted to read The Grapes of Wrath and The Scarlet Letter. I should get back to reading. I used to read a lot. I've also thought that I would maybe like to read some stuff by Truman Capote.

Great Expectations was cool. hard to get thru in some spots. but worth it.

I downloaded all of Dostoevsky's complete works for free, and just couldn't get into them. So there they sit, taking up space on my Kindle.

Grapes of Wrath is good. My favorites are all the Old Science Fiction - Asimov's Robot series, as well as the Foundation series are worth a read.

I also downloaded a bunch of free Christian classics like Calvin's Institute of the Christian Religion, because I wanted to read it first hand to know what he really said. Couldn't handle it either.

Do NOT download the Robert Jordan fantasy series - Wheel of Time. The first 10 books are riveting. The next few just spin their wheels. Then he dies and someone else takes over. I think it has been over 10 years since I started buying the books, and still no resolution to the plot. My theory is it got too complex to figure out.

Same with RR Marsh and his Fire and Ice series. Really good fantasy for the first 3 books. But he worked himself in to a corner, and took him two books before he finally killed everyone. Not a spoiler alert, since it is pretty well known that he really played everyone.

Moby Dick was the first novel my dad gave me that held my attention from cover to cover. He tried Tom Sawyer, an it was ok, but I liked Moby Dick better. I remember about the time I finished reading it the movie (1956/Gregory Peck) was on TV. After watching it, dad asked me how I liked it - I said it was pretty good, but they left out half the book, and book in hand showed that the whole middle two-thirds was gone from the movie!

He said that they could only fit so much into the time span of the movie. I said "Yeh - but TWO-THIRDS??!!!"

we had a good laugh.
I watched it again 2 or three months ago, and got the 2010 remake, but have yet to watch it. I wanted to get the 2008 one with Patrick Stewart, but couldn't find it at local stores - I'll get it online in a few minutes.

I also enjoyed "Billy Budd: Sailor" also from Melville.

A harbinger of my stint in the Navy? Perhaps. LOL

I have a collected volume of all of Shakespeare's works.

I didn't much go for Tom Sawyer, but very much enjoyed Clemens' satires of Christianity - I had a constant laugh with "Eve's Diary", "Extracts from Adam's Diary" and "Letters from the Earth" !!!!

Yeah - I love Coleridge now, but I so wish sometimes to go back to the time when the only poet I knew of was Seuss.

I also read philosophy books, the two I into right now are Friedrich Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil" and Marcus Aurelius "Meditation"

Wiccan, Hemingway did not write a book about a South American plantation that was attacked by a colony of ants. There was however a short story written by Carl Stephenson, it was titled Leiningen Versus The Ants. It was made into a movie called The Naked Jungle in the 50's. I hope this helps.

Um, I'm reading the Encyclopedia(s). Really, And since these are from 1976, they are considered "classic".

I just skip over things like physics, city populations, maps and things like "current world leaders" - everything else is pretty okay!

And since I am kinda ADD now, it works out Really Well; I can learn Lots of things in a short time, and go back to it later!

I love Jane Eyre, Treasure Island, The Odyssey, and Wuthering Heights. I have this hobby that one day I hope to pass on to my children. I buy the book in hardcover and if I really enjoy it I write a letter to the author saying so and then ask if they would sign it for me. I always send a postage paid envelope so that if they decide to sign it they can mail it back to me, no cost to them. I now have a collection of 27 books and counting.....
PS: Obviously this does not work if the author has died....

I haven't read Steinbeck for a long time but at school , when we were 13 , we read Of Mice And Men..then The Pearl and they still resonate
