Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

First off: This thread may be offensive to some people so if your easily offended stop here.
For some time now I have been looking for something to occupy myself, trying to find a new hobby or interest that I can enjoy doing. The problem is I just can't seem to find anything that can hold my interest that long, or I can't do it because of fiscal or physical constraints.
I started with trying to make walking-sticks/staffs, but because of small motor skill issues that I have, I not able to do the wood burning or carving I need to do in order to make them how I would like to.
Then I tried to buy and play a hand held video gaming system, I HATE VIDEO GAMES, I THINK THEY MAKE PEOPLE STUPID, what was I thinking.
Next, I bought myself a Nook(e-reader), don't get me wrong, I love reading and love my Nook, but I can only sit still and read for so long then I get bored and restless.
My latest attempts at trying to find something to occupy my time have been split between getting a bicycle and doing cycling ( I have arthritis in my hips and knees), plus bikes are expensive and getting a violin and learning to play the Celtic fiddle ( again I have small motor skill issues with my fingers and lessons are expensive).
The other thing that makes all of this much more difficult ( and here's where people, especial from the South may take offence), is I come from an area in Massachusetts where there were 5 ivory league Schools( Amherst, Mount Holyoke, Our Lady Of The Elms and Smith, not to mention Williams is only 30 miles away) also in other parts of the State there are Schools such as Harvard, Cambridge and MIT, so I am accustomed to being able to go down town and have culture, diversity and be able to go a Cafe for a coffee and strike up a intellectual conversation with some one.
Not to blow my my own horn or maybe too, but I have an IQ 35 to 45 points above average and I feel living down here in the South is sucking the intelligence right the f**k out of me.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

If you qualify but AREN'T a member, perhaps you should join.
I couldn't look it over as much as I wanted -- you have to be a member to see everything -- but there's information about volunteering and meetings of various sorts.
You might also want to look into a Unitarian church. It doesn't matter what you believe or don't believe in. All beliefs are to be respected.
My late aunt had a high I.Q. And I don't mean a 'high I.Q!!!! I mean a FREAKISHLY high I.Q!!!!
She quite enjoyed the Unitarian church she belonged to.
They used to jokingly say that their prayer was, 'Dear Lord, if there is one, save my soul if I have one.'
But really, it doesn't have so much of a religious flavor to it. At least my aunt's didn't. They were always getting together for intellectual pursuits and seemed always to be taking trips and to have interesting speakers come for lectures.
I remember that James Burke spoke there once, because I was such a big fan of him at the time, because of 'Connections.' But they had lots of biggies.
She lived in St. Petersburg, FL. Don't know how that compares to your area.

Good luck. If you have such a high I.Q., and yet can't come up with something that fills your needs and holds your interest, perhaps you are coming at it from the wrong angle!!
(((((Hugs)))))
Sorry you feel claustrophobic where you live....
Im sure you have your reasons for living there...
It will come to you.... lots of good advise to come, mine not being one unfortunately.
have you considered a sport? tai chi, ninjutsu? something that doesnt require fine motor skills and will make you feel accomplished. trying to think of art forms that will keep you interested.
I used to live in the San Francisco Bay Area...I worked for Toshiba , sales and writing custom software.
My EX, moved me to The Middle Of No WHere , Central California..farming country........I lost my mind ...seriously, I lost my mind .
There is NO culture here,
No Book Clubs
No Theater
No Music
I signed up for a Thai Chi class........the school called and said we have to move your class selection to Tues nights....a few days later , they called and said they had to move it to Thurs....by the next week, they called and said , we were going to get a refund for the class, because not enough people had signed up.
I could rant on and on about living in this (excuse me ) shit hole of a town...but I won't
OR you could make extra money by tutoring children in the area; it sounds like you have a lot to offer others.
Maybe dance lessons or Karate/Tai lessons? With the weather getting nicer, maybe gardening? Maybe learning some games like Chess that you can teach Tats or find other partners to play. Are there clubs in your town for game tournaments? Can you look into Habitat for Humanity and see if there are ways you can volunteer that wont affect your limitations? Just brainstorming!!!! Hope you find something.
They may have one for you in your area....x
