So after years of taking 6 meds for my bipolar and having a Bipolar NOS diagnosis, I began to question why I wasn't feeling better. I thought I had the answer with this diagnosis however now I'm even more confused. I've seen 2 more doctors and one said its ptsd. The final said its again bipolar NOS. I'm trying to reduce the amount of meds because it's been hard on me.
Has anyone questioned their diagnosis or given the bipolar NOS one? I feel confused and wonder how can I manage this beyond meds and therapy? I feel like I'm given the same talks and told to take my meds. I don't feel ok or stable at all. Part of me feels I'm not given the level of care I should or they don't care. I'm on the verge of having a breakdown and I feel like I'm watching a train wreck that I can't stop. It's almost like I have to hit that bottom where I end up in the hospital to be taken seriously. I'm trying my best and want to feel as normal as I can. Thanks for your help.

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

outcome has to be to use the treatment and meds that work.
I have a 5-prong treatment plan -- and all 5 aspects are equally important.
The first is proper diet. I have to be pretty strict with this but I feel like crap when I don't eat properly.
The second is exercise. I have to exercise vigorously everyday. If I don't, I feel like crap.
The third is adequate sleep. I have never been able to sleep on my own so I use sleep aids to make sure I get a least 7 hours per night.
The fourth is therapy. I see a wonderful counselor who helps me process life.
The fifth is medication which I take faithfully, If I don't, I feel like crap.
I hope you can work out the correct medications and other treatments so you get to feeling normal again.
The important thing is your treatment and what makes you feel better. If you don't think your Pdoc is doing the right thing by you, then have a talk with him/her about it, if it doesn't get resolved find a new Pdoc. If your taking meds that you don't think you need, you can make your own mind up about your meds. They can't force you to take them. But if your going to take your treatment in control you have to take the responsibility and risk as well. Changing meds can cause manic eps or depressive states. Certain meds have to be taken together, i.e. a BiPolar never takes an Anti-Depressant without a Mood Stabilizer, as it will cause a Manic Episode.
There are basic rules you have to follow to be safe. And you need to be under the care and guidance of a Pdoc. You have all the right to take control of your care, just make sure your ready to take the responsibility. If the current meds aren't working talk to your Pdoc and change them up.
Hang in there and hope you get some results soon.
A lot of doctors don't want to give an absolute diagnosis now or what they refer to as 'labels' I think because of this
However symptoms can still be treated and although therapy is the main treatment for PTSD most are also on meds like the ones we take for bipolar
If you have trauma in your history DBT might be a good therapy to consider if you aren't already in it... Big hug and a blessing...xo
