Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Just joined today and am getting a feel for how this works on here. The latest in a string of psychiatrists has given me the latest in a string of diagnosis - bi-polar (in remission). My last of three hospitilizations was in 2012. I returned to psyciatric treatment and got back on my meds (again) about a year ago now. This time minus the trip to the hospital, thank goodness. I was able to tell something was coming on and head it off before it got bad.
I honestly don't know if i'm bi-polar or not. I leaned toward borderline personality myself, but none of them have mentioned it. Other diagnosis have been pyschosis nos, major depression, and schizoaffective disorder. Feels like we are throwing things against a wall to see what sticks sometimes.
So, as for my reason for joining the group, i just wanted to perhaps communicate with some people experiencing some of the same things i have and likely will.
Question - If you've had multiple diagnosis, how many different diagnosis have you had? Do you think the docs have it right?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Other have anxiety, bipolr, ADHD, and diarrhea to boot.... : )
Welcome aboard! Happy New Year from Assorted Nuts LOL
It can take quite some time for a firm diagnosis....
The difference would be that bipolar should have long periods of stability in between 'cycles' once you have an effective treatment
A personality disorder will be your personality ongoing however therapy can help a great deal with things that aren't working for you.....
This is a good place.....I'm glad that you're here.......xo
I have had a ton of diagnosis’ thrown at me. Depression, borderline personality disorder, adhd, bipolar disorder, pretty much every single type of anxiety disorder you can offer.... at the end of the day when I think of my mental illness I just think of bipolar. I feel that covers it well and it is also the first thing i was ever diagnosed with, so it’s stuck the most throughout treatment.
The diagnosis of borderline got better with therapy. I do have ADHD, but I am on meds with it and as long as I take the meds I’m fine. I’ve gone through plenty of exposure therapy to help my anxiety, so unless I’m in a depressive episode that is fine too.
My diagnosis of bipolar is the one diagnosis that had always effected my life the most. The extreme ups and downs, the random bursts of chaos that end such lovely periods of stability... that’s what’s always going to be there. With meds I’m much more regulated and episodes are less frequent and less severe, but it’ll always be there. The meds they’ve used to regulate the bipolar are the meds that have changed my life, so the diagnosis is wildly accurate, in my opinion - despite me thinking the doctors were crazy when they said I was bipolar as my primary diagnosis however many years ago. For years, going through numerous doctors, i thought every single one was crazy. When i became treatment compliant I saw maybe they had a point or two and listening might not hurt.
Having to go from doctor to doctor is frustrating. So is trying treatment after treatment.
Hugs.
