Anyone know of anyone who had a successful lombtomy?
My hubby says if I were to get one I'd have to relearn how to eat
and walk and all that stuff and I wouldn't know who my daughter was
or anyone else I knew in the past would be erased from my memory.
Is this true?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). lobotomy (lbt`m, l), surgical procedure for cutting nerve pathways in the frontal lobes of the brain brain, the supervisory center of the nervous system in all vertebrates. It also serves as the site of emotions, memory, self-awareness, and thought.
Anatomy and Function
The operation has been performed on mentally ill patients whose behavioral patterns were not improved by other forms of treatment. The procedure as pioneered by Nobel laureate Egas Moniz in the 1930s consisted of drilling holes through the skull and severing or interfering with nerve fibers to the midbrain, particularly to the thalamus. In a later development, instruments were passed through the eye sockets to sever the connections.
Lobotomies were performed on numerous patients between 1936 and 1956. In approximately one half there was at least temporary relief of symptoms. However, some patients exhibited worse behavior after the operation, and others whose tensions were relieved by the surgery degenerated to a vegetative state. Since the mid-1950s such psychosurgery has been largely abandoned in favor of less radical means of treatment, e.g., the administration of tranquilizers and other chemical substances. Most psychiatrists today do not view lobotomy as an acceptable form of treatment.

The only reason it was so popular was that they had no chemical restraints, no tranqs at that time. So, dangerous patients would end up spending the day posied (tied) to their chair or bed. In the understaffed state-run hospitals that could be really horrific, without enough staff to ensure the patient was moved every couple hours, diapers changed, whatever.
I don't think you could get one. Valium, however, is cheap and available. I don't know how it affects beepers.
I also watched the same documentary as chuggernaut, really an eye-opener.
