Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
My freinds & I agree to disagree & remain friends.
Von, I understand your approach, but why not just let him know that you have several new STDs. One of them is so new the doctors don't even know how to treat it yet. . . . . and tell him that if he doesn't mind puss you're rarin' to go. Maybe he can get a pusstache? eewwwww LOL
Howver I've had a "lightbulb" moment this week. Over the last 12-18 months I have been on forums like this and I have read the vast majority of Bipolar sufferers posting that family and friends treat them, like me, with stigma, rejection, isolation, judgement, bigotry etc. In my case because I have life threatening mental illness (and I did nearly die 2 years ago). The pattern just repeats and repeats and repeats.
So what is this telling me? It's telling me that these reactions and the terrible treatment of psych patients is the NORM. It is much more likely that family and friends will respond this way, rather than the very few times I have seen posts where family and friends were seen to give unconditional love, tolerance, the generosity to learn about the illnesses, humility rather than arrogance etc.
So I've learnt from this that it it NOT personal when family and friends offer up these varied forms of rejection, although it most deinitely FEELS like personal rejection to me - especially now that I am profoundly isolated - at no fault of my own. These responses are so common that it is leading me to believe that my family and friends, even in their ignorance and arrogance ARE NO BETTER OR WORSE than most other family and friends who respond like this across the globe. I am hoping I can make a leap from there to gaining long-term acceptance and forgiveness. "They know not what they do". A fairly clever bloke said that.
I saw my psychologist this morning and told her everything above and she just had this huge smile and said YES that's it. It doesn't mean I'm magically healed about the terrible things that have happened to me in these regards, but it a great big step in the right direction.
