Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

As an aside, the fact that I have bipolar shapes and colors almost all of my life- therefore, it seems as though at times, almost every facet of my life (my relationships, my jobs, my body, etc) are/can be related to BP--so I think there are very few topics that should be "off limits" here just because they apparently aren't BP related. Just saying.
I've also done hardcore longterm stints on all the weight gain antipsychotics; old & new (well, lots)
zyprexa, risperdal, seroquel, thorazine, haldol, abilify (not so bad but still gotta be careful)
It's not impossible to manage weight! Yes, cravings & yes, fucked metabolism..but stiil...indulging gluttonous consumption of food that is extremely fattening is such a dumb first world scourge!
Walk! Exercise! Eat good stuff! & take emotional eating off this board!
(gets off soapbox)
That said, have felt sorry for myself too, taking these drugs, it isn't fair, it does make things shitty difficult, I know.
I'm always on antipsychotics, for a long time...said it before, say it again- to avoid massive weight gain= NO sugar!! (none!) & low carb.
I admire your self-restraint, Lou. I gained about 70lbs during my first encounter with Risperdal in 96...and it's all been uphill (haha) after that.
How would you differentiate between "emotional eating" and eating/diet problems as they relate to our meds?
