Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I didn't mean any disrespect Richard. Just a lack of understanding on my part.

I believe we often have a preconceived notion of "God" in our minds when we contemplate whether we "believe in God" or not...you know?
I was raised a Southern Conservation Christian, good 'ol, USA-style. And you have a decent knowledge of what I "learned". What I Do know, is that the grooves of my brain run pretty deep when it comes to having faith in an unseen, comparatively-omnipotent, omnicient Being "out there" - in other words, it's Easy for me to believe. Even growing up to believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny can help deepen those grooves, guys.
My concept of God has changed through the years; from the grandfather-type image; the wispy-white frog that swims through the skies above me; the three-headed alien that could be the physical embodiment of "God" when we finally meet; the age-old "Is God a woman or a man" thing that has NO relevance anymore, in my opinion (since when does an omnipotent Supreme Being need to be gender-specific?? Why, not even WE are gender-specific anymore ) (And God Help us if "God" is no more intelligent or free-thinking than we are).
Goodness knows I've read enough science fiction on the matter, as well as technical, quantum math/science and various philosophy on the subject. There are issues of intelligence levels that I have come to grips with as far as my own belief, and the sociological beliefs of the average Homo Sapien as he roams the planet....
The big question that Always runs through my mind at the point of my own singularity is, "Am I better off believing in God - as I now understand God - or am I not? Am I a better person for it?"
And the answer is, undeniably - YES. It is SO not a matter of a bunch of religious fanatics of any faith or denomination screaming "I'm Right!! I'm Right!!"....and yet, sadly, I understand why they Do. We have a Need to be right.
There is an Answer. But the complete view of the puzzle pieces are not for us yet.
Thanks for letting me "stumble in" today. :):)
We're a very eclectic bunch, and I love to hear what goes through each of our minds.... we can't expect everyone to agree on a topic that is religion-based.
:)
given that, first off, i see belief as a journey - what i believed when i was 15 is very different from what i believed when i was 23, which is very different than where i'm at now. that's not to say that there is no difference between any of those positions - there is for me - its my story of myself.
i know that would probably seem contrary with believing in Christ, but i see it this way: i believe there is something beyond us that we do not & will never know. this thing is the true nature of things - the true underlying reality. we will never truly know this - we only know the shadows which our puny minds & self-referential logic can percieve.
so, for me, i cannot approach God or Divinity or the ultimate realization of Truth. but i can follow in the ways of Grace & Love & Patience & Compassion & Forgiveness. these are the examples i learn from catholicism (as i have come to understand it). as i believe these examples are Divinely inspired, you could say i have Faith.
and that's what i believe.
I DO belive in God, I refuse to go to hell!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite parts of 'Catch-22' and it is so totally apropos!!!!
Isnt He punishing me enough? Yossarian snorted resentfully. You know, we certainly mustnt let Him get away with it. Oh, no, we certainly mustnt let Him get away scot free for all the sorrow Hes caused us. Someday Im going to make him pay. I know when. On the Judgement Day. Yes, thats the day Ill be close enough to reach out and grab that little yokel by His neck and
Stop it! Stop it! Leiutenant Scheisskopfs wife screamed suddenly, and began beating him ineffectually about the head with both fists. Stop it!
Yossarian ducked behind his arm for protection while she slammed away at him in feminine fury for a few seconds, and then he caught her determinedly by the wrists and forced her gently back down on the bed.
What the hell are you getting so upset about? he asked her bewilderedly in a tone of contrite amusement. I thought you didnt believe in God.
I dont, she sobbed, bursting violently into tears. But the God I dont believe in is a good God, a just God, a merciful God. Hes not the mean and stupid God you make Him out to be.
Yossarian laughed and turned her arms loose. Lets have a little more religious freedom between us, he proposed obligingly. You dont believe in the God you want to, and I wont believe in the God I want to. Is that a deal?
I repeat.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
I dont believe hell is anywhere but here on Earth and I dont think the first time you leave life is your last time
I also do not think that God and the rest are too pleased with the human race and as you all know I see the species becoming extinct. Not with Gods help there is no need we are doing it to ourselves
Nope. It's still the UK here last time I checked.
Which, loosely translated, means it's completely fucking irrelevant! :D
