Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

For Severely Depressed BiPolar Patients Anti-Depressants are a big part of their Med Cocktail, the other part is a Mood Stabilizer. I've been BiPolar, Severely Suicidally Depressed BiPolar for 29 years and my med cocktail has always included an Anti-Depressant.
This is where separating things into categories of 1 and 2 gets a bit confusing, it can cause people to give inaccurate information. Back in the day, before BiPolar was separated into different categories, Lithium and an Anti-Depressant was standard treatment with a little something for anxiety thrown in.
The only difference between BiPolar I and BiPolar II is that BiPolar II patients have only hypomanic eps., they must have never had a full blown Manic Ep....its not much of a difference.
So just an FYI if your giving treatment advice, please make sure it's correct. Anti-Depressants only cause Manic issues for BiPolars if they are not given with a Mood Stabilizer.
I had a cat who used to take Prozac, he used to have an anxiety problem and would bite patches of hair from himself, it helped him immensely. The only reason I don't still take Lithium is because I have Kidney and Liver Disease....I prefer many of the old meds to the new ones.
