Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I finally got to experience the high side of bio P disorder. I usually am low or slightly low. I like the energenic high of being BP, but as usual nothing lasts forever.
I've had seretonin syndrome from too much seretonin. That is no fun at all. It consists of panic attacks, paranoia, and high anxiety.
I was in an institution for a few days to try Electric Shock Therapy...BIG MISTAKE. Anyhow, a girl got admitted and I asked her why. She said she was experiencing a high side of BP and was too happy. I was floored. I have never heard such a thing as being too happy, much less, experience it. I still find it hard to believe someone can be too happy.
Zoloft and Trazadone seems to keep me pretty level, thank God. The only other thing that has worked was Lithium and that is a pain because you have to have your blood drawn every 3 wks. Other than that I have tried all kinds of antidepressants and these two are the only ones that work for me.
Feel free to share your experiences with BP and what has worked for you.
Much love

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

There are two foundational medications for bipolar disorder. One tends to work better for those who are more manic than depressed most of the time, and the other tends to work better for those who are more depressed than manic most of the time. Lithium is the number one go-to medication and the first one made for bipolar disorder. It tends to work best for people who have more problems with mania than depression. A newer medication that has been around for a while now is called Lamictal. Lamictal has antidepressant effects as well as addressing bipolar symptoms. And there are many other medications that can be added in conjunction with either of those two.
My core problem is with sleep so if I sleep well I don't have episodes...so I take trazadone and Seroquel to sleep in small amounts and that is working well.
My other problem has been over scheduling and over commiting so I have been very mindful of that as well. All things considered I'm doing very well....
I have tried a gamut of meds as well and try and stick with my 'oldies'
I'm on Seroquel, tegretol and restoril for sleep
I never get the 'happy' either at least not for more then a few days and then I become mixed..... My meds sort of keep me flat but I have a huge problem with sleep and at least I feel stable.... xo
If you felt better with a lower dose go back to it. I take Ambien to sleep and it is not a cure. It has just caused other problems. Meletonin and over the counter sleep meds help. Do stay in touch. Much love
