i was told to discontinue Seroquel abruptly and wean off from Celexa in the next week. I saw a new psychiatrist yesterday and he looked at an EKG that I had 2 weeks ago. It showed that I have “enlonged QT syndrome”. He told me it could cause cardiac arrest and sudden death. I am REALLLLLY freaking out. I don’t know what is going to happen to me due to abruptly discontinuing these meds. I tried to cold turkey these meds before and I almost killed myself. I am so terrified. I am supposed to be starting a new job on January 2nd. Please help.

happened to me combination would cause my heart to sop i cut out zyprexa and am now only on haldol. having a hard time of it but nothing so0 far as far as an episode i was never stable it is scary but they will come up with something do not worry it may take a while but stay calm

TC it sounds like your doctor is trying to do the right thing for your health. Any chance you could open your tool box and try on some anti-anxiety coping skills?

They will have to check with your cardiologist before moving forward with a new med plan. Fortunately, there are quite a few meds that have a lower risk than Celexa (aka-Citalopram). You will have options to work with TC, so please don't give up hope.

For now, take the recomended daily maximum dose of omega 3-6-9, and maybe talk to your psychiatrist and medical doctor tomorrow to see what your options are.

Honestly, there will be options for you, so hang in there.

Medication should never replace coping skills, the 2 should be used in conjunction with one another, as they don't tend to work completely on their own.

If your that worried you could ask your Pdoc to put you in the hospital for a few days while he detoxes you from the Seroquel so you'll be monitored.

I was thinking the same thing as OlderC……. I would talk with your pdoc about going inpatient for a short term.... Then you'll have around the clock support and perhaps they can discuss with your cardiologist what you can take to help you through..... Gentle hug.....xo

Here is the latest. I spoke with my cardiologist. The nurse there said that this psychiatrist and the cardiologist need to have a conversation about this. It just makes me angry that this didn’t happen in the FIRST place. How did this pdoc think he could do this without consulting the heart doc first ! This pdoc is VERY YOUNG and is probably just getting started. He is also new to the area. My heart dr’s nurse told me to start taking my meds again and not to change anything. I am supposed to see the pdoc again on 12/20. Perhaps this will be a teachable moment for the pdoc. I really do like him. I like the thought that he would like to try and simplify my meds but you CANNOT just abruptly stop a mood stabilizer that you’ve been on for a decade! uggggg.....

I don't think Seraquel is the cause of this.....I read up and it looks like the condition is inherited. But IDK if Seraquel can make it worse. I take that. It had me worried at first because my doc wanted to take me off in favor of Latuda......but I need Seraquel just like you do,
