Hi, I'm new here. I've been avoiding the inevitable for a decade since I left hospital. I agreed to the meds but not the diagnosis. I'm so scared!!! I can't stop crying!
The problem: I feel amazing! The other problem: Just a month ago I was in a horriffic depression. The other problem: I got psychotic! The trigger, a new doc was switching my meds and I thought this 'depression' would just go away as he evaluated me. Over the past month, I suddenly flipped out of a very bad low to be awake for days. Only taking edibles got me to bed. One night I became convinced I was on a government watch list and that the fbi was looking for me-I have no criminal history or reason to think that. One some days I felt so euphoric and I was not sure what was going through my mind. Because I couldn't sleep, I was solving math problems in my head for hours on end...and I don't even like math. I was devastated this morning as I was going to try and lie to my new psychiatrist and tell him I was all good now as my depression resolved. After three or four days of no sleep and this paranoia, I feel like I went past the red flags and hit the stop sign. I'm going to pick up my new meds today. I can't function on MMJ I don't think that's going to cut it, and he agreed with me. I am so devastated. I don't want a serious mental illness and I can't stop crying. I've been taking the meds for years and it's been on the books, I just "told myself" it was something else. Nothing has changed, the medication regime will be similar to what it has been for years. It's my perception and after this stupid "fbi thing" I realized I can't keep the dx at bay anymore. Other than that, not much has changed.

It's really hitting me since my mother passed a few months ago, plus stress from having to eventually move. Also having my niece coming around who suffers bipolar and refuses to take medication for it. Its been...

When i was in the ER February 16th 2025, i was being admitted to ICU where i was for 3 weeks, then had to relearn to walk for 3 weeks in another hospital rehab floor, the nurse told me something that made me feel for over 18 months now that i was finally *safe*. She told me that the guy who raped and beat me 21 years ago now almost 20 years at that time, was in prison as of a month before that...

But either way I'd agree marijuana is a bad idea, it often makes people who aren't bipolar paranoid anyway.
Well done for telling the truth, bipolar hypomania/ mania can be very seductive.
I was actually glad when I was diagnosed... I knew something had been really wrong for quite a while and it was having a huge impact on my life
Please know that we have a very treatable disorder... It can take some time to find the right med or combo and find coping skills but it's all there and very available
I'm glad that you've found us... This is a good place to come... xo
We are valuable and worthy and we are not our diagnosis. We are humans with a brain health disorder or a physical health disorder. We are not the disease, we are souls in bodies who are valuable and worthy and matter. You matter.
Welcome the key to getting better is doing all the things you need to to stay well one day at a time...
This is a safe place to talk about your progress and your failures and any thing really...
Accepting a diagnosis can be hard even if you are expecting it. It takes a while to get into equilibrium with it and then decide what you are going to do with that knowledge.
