in addition the TB, my three thoughts are a) they could've been checking across the board for in-body drug smuggling, b) they could've been checking your heart as well as your lungs as chukking down a bunch of pills to off yourself can cause a lot of heart problems, or c) they could've just been doing a super thorough medical check...

whatever the case...everyone who's said you have a right to know why...mental issues or no...is bang on.

and, btw, it's never happened to me on any of my visits to phospts...unless while unconscious...

Yea, it is VERY odd. I am going to really hammer my pdoc with questions about it when I see him next. I am also going to ask him for the results to make sure my lungs are in good condition. I used to be a smoker.

It was funny because me and all the rest of the sheep that was going down to the x-ray unit was just going like it was procedure, of course all the rest of the patients probley didn't think to question. This one guy did it was funny. He was like "Why the hell are they giving me an X-ray of my lungs, I smoke 3 packs a day I don't wanna see that".. LOL

Weird,my first thought was checking for tuberculosis..but they do that with a skin test nowdays.

Don't understand why they'd do chest x-rays. Doesn't make sense to me.

skin test is to see if you've been exposed to TB.

CXR is to see if you have it.

If you do then the meds begin...

oh man i want an x-ray. lol i only got to pee in a jar. and have my bloods taken. and my blood presure and my pose rate taken. man they keep taken things from me and i never got them back.

They don't do anything like that at my local psych ward, we do have to have swabs for MRSA though. I'd talk to your doctor and ask what exactly they're looking for

There is no way Dr.s can administer tests without explaining why. I think TB is a good reason also because it's airborn.

I don't think it can be anything other than TB. The skin test is too slow, although you would have to give consent to an X-ray, since it involves radiation to the lungs. If they wanted to check the heart, they'd do an EKG. It only takes a bit longer than an X-ray, but it checks the heart, and the results are there right away, they just look at the printout.
