Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

this will probably sound crazy, but I feel like I was bisexual before my second breakdown being 70% attracted to men and 30% attracted to women. Now, I feel like I'm 60% attracted to women and 40% attracted to men. I was unable to have orgasms on psychiatric drugs and was on them for about 2 1/2 years. I felt I had recovered enough to get off the drugs and did so, with the help of my counselor and psychiatrist.
a few weeks after I got off the drugs, I experienced the first return of lustful feelings, but not with my husband, but while watching a soap opera. A female character simply took off her dress and revealed a bikini and I was instantly into it. That had never happened to me before. I did develop a thyroid problem from lithium, which can mess with hormones. I think that could be the cause. But I still feel more attracted to women than I ever did pre-psychiatric drugs. I really feel like they made me more bisexual.

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
Cheers!

i think if a person is bisexual, it's the object and not the gender that swings the ratio one way or the other.
In light of meds holding you down you're probably in a rebound to enjoy your sexuality as you choose to pursue it. You may level off or hold the higher level which I don't think is a problem. I don't think meds will make you more bisexual, or bisexual at all. Your orientation is your choice but now without meds you're more back to your normal self. Does that sound about right?
Desire is effected by meds but not the manifestation of that desire I miss being hyper sexual sometimes but I get in alot less trouble when I have no drive from my meds.
Also, with my Asperger's, I tend to stare at women which gives them the creeps.
Sexually, I still feel like a little boy.
I know a lot of BP ladies who have "fluctuated", me included. With all our hormonal changes to, I think it is easier for gals to switch. We are more complicated.
Just my humble opinion. I'm not a sexologist.
Let's not create disinformation on this board.
and we are talking about meds, not bipolar - so no, while meds can effect libido or sexual function, they don't effect sexual orientation.
At my worst, before I knew what was wrong with me, I was having spontaneous orgasms and the goofiest things would rev me up!!!
One time, it was the way the sunlight flashed off my set of keys.
Another time, it was when a certain chord played in the music I was listening to.
And one time, it was when I was having an angry discussion with a female boss, at work.
I was extremely sexually turned on all the time and almost any kind of stimulation was perceived by my body as being sexual.
I'm not so sure I would write off pansexuality when it comes to how Bipolar Disorder can affect some people, although it may be limited to a very few.
Or even if pansexuality does NOT occur, a big shift in one's sexual orientation CAN occur.
I've read a lot of posts by people who, when manic, engaged in sexual activity with either sex, whatever was available which is NOT something they did or had any interest in doing during periods of stability. (Or depressions, etc.)
And this was a discussion about what occurred while being off meds.
When I wasn't on meds, I WAS all over the place, for a time.
I'm going to see my Pdoc next week. I hope I remember to ask him about it.
The only things I can think of related to BP is that mania can cause hyper sexuality & risk taking. Depression causes lack of interest in sex, as do the side effects of some meds.
Enjoy your sexual feelings! They sound normal, natural, & healthy to me.
It's been a hard slog to get some degree of acceptance and clear thinking about sexual diversity, let's not turn the clock back by 50 years.
If you think it was the meds or lack there of it probably is.
