expect A LOT of changes over the yrs. My niece is 14 and she has changed so much since she was 9. Ive been raising her since then.

its "Hanna Montana" I dont like. Because my 9ryold neighbor has gotten so obnoxious from watching it. BUT....if there is healthy household communication and funciton then i'm sure a show wouldn't have quite the influence as it does on a kid who doesn't know any better. I tell her all the time, that "that is not how kids talk to adults" and she snaps back "yes it is".

I've even stopped taking her in public or around "friends" because of it.

WoW my kids talk to me like that they get a smack. My 12 yr old son thought he was big enough to raise his hand to me and I knocked the shit out of him and said "if you ever raise your hand at me again I will knock you out, you can call CPS if you want but I will get out of jail and knock you on your ass again. He showed respect for me from then on. We are as close as we ever were. You have to lay down the law as too who the adult is in the house. I dont mean abuse them. There is a fine line between discipline and abuse. I respect that line.

you are right malice! you can't let that stuff get out of hand. better nip it in the bud now and not when he's 16! But then there is that male to male challenge thing when they get high teens. i don't know what happens if there isn't an adult male to challenge. i'd have to ask a single mom.

Yea my son hated my husband and tried to bow up to him as well. Now he sais that John (stepdad) is more of a father to him than his own dad. He has a lot of respect for him and thanks him for the dicipline

its music kids listen to all kinds 12-16 all i would listen to is punk it was my life..the music though..not the life style..theres a big diffrents in likeing a type a music and 'Looking the part" or Being the part every part..sorry to my old friends but drinking and drugs were never my big thing and they got over that

I;ll just never forget my dad taking down my brother in the kitchen, when we were "kids". He didn't hurt him, but my brother thought he could take him and threw a punch, and dad TOOK HIM DOWN! lol it's what he needed.

I understand the line every kid must have respect but theres respect and then theres fear it will happen agin..Haha also it hard to respect your dad when most your life hes been a drunk(muis week days atleast he worked)

hate to disagree but physical violence is just wrong. You shouldn't be using it with your kids...what are you teaching them? You aren't teaching them how to deal with problems in a socialbly acceptable manner. What if they turn around in a few years time and hit their boss or their wife and lose their job or their marriage because they never learnt how to deal with problems properly.

thank you..now i dont have to explan anything..dont you think this effects the kid..in a negtive way..I truthly I look at my dad diffrently cuz one nite he pushed up agested a wall(that it and just yelled) another nite he once agin yelling at me anyway I had to run to next door and stay there for the nite..The people liveing behide us came by and told my dad to get the fuck in the house and leave me alone as they saw me run next door..Him getting mad and thearthing me has made me respsect him less..meanwhile if he was ever to hit me or wise a hand to me I would never respsect him in anyway..Now I give him respesct but he also gives me mine and when he dosent or I dont to him to clear. respect is sumthing gained not feared into your kid..weather they are close to you know or not you think that memory still dosent stick in there head..u think the preson thats spossed to protect you theathing or doing the oppsite..if your kid did disrespect you or rise a hand to you there other ways to handle it then OH look I can rise my hand too..But mines bigger
