Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Your question does pretty much suggests your dx could well be erroneous.
i read it as a reference to the doctors ease of diagnosis.
i have probably stirred up some emotions on here in the past aswell..lets face it..its very easily done.
love and hugs to you all
I know there are people out there that have had/do have much more serious bouts of psychosis and wasn't sure that my comparitively small experience would warrant a change to BP1.
No offense was intended...I apologize to anyone who was offended by it.
BUT....this thread was hijacked and I made to be a fool for asking it. I, for one, think that people with BP2 suffer as much as BP1, just different symptoms.
I hope you're not taking it too hard, Hannah.
I saw it more as a big ol' DS debate/squabble rather than an attack on you.
peace x
There seems to be alot of "sensitivity" from all sides in this thread but I dont recall anyone outrightly obliterating BP1 as someone has BP2. Let us not forget that we all suffer in our own ways through this disorder and it isnt about who has what but rather how we can help each other through it.
Hanna, I think some docs are "easy" to change a diagnosis to fit symptoms especially when they havent experienced them theirselves. They follow the written criteria that is in front of them. I think what is most important is that you learn how to take care of "you" and the symptoms that you do have. Many times docs classify diagnosis for purposes of treatment alone. Its possible that is all your doc has done.
I think it was a valuable question and misinterpreted by some. I know you too well to ever think there was any calousness in it. Just take care of you sweetie. Hugs
I would argue that BP1 can cover everything experienced by BP2 + much, much, mindblowingly more. True
Pdocs I have spoken to over the years call BP2 "minor fluctuations" compared to BP1.
& Schizophrenia is even more dreadful than that.
Not a competition- fact.
Yes, everyone suffers..but the challenges are *different*
"hey guys, things like this happen when we get into the thing versus the other thing stuff..it's like emotional and people sometimes you know misread a bit and things get taken the wrong way..it was you know an ok question and the answers too, lets not make more stuff out it it, yeah, you dig?"
I love all the beepers on DS.
.just think it means something to me to emphasize the differences...
not that one wins the Pain Olympics.:
but that there are very difficult challenges of a different kind with iBP1&..likewise different realm of challenges with bp2 (with some overlap)
If not making sense I've popped evening pills
Hope I haven't offended anyone further
