Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
hi all,
this is my first post. Dealing with severe depression now for the last few weeks after 3or4 months of energy and wonderful creativity. I’m 55 and been labeled bipolar II. Just been back to the psychiatrist and are now trying Lamotrigine and bupropion. Each time now seems worse, if that’s possible. Haven’t worked now for two years (used to be a pilot) I know if I wait long enough I’ll get back to happiness and creativity but I’m in that space where I just need relief from this pain of depression. It’s 3am and my beautiful wife is sleeping. I’m hoping that these new drugs will work soon but.. I have been admitted before and I won’t go back, I see no benefits there. I’ve tried to end things before without success, but I’m older and wiser now so I have a firm foolproof plan.
For those who have been in a similar place, what have you told yourself that helped you see color again.
Sorry if this upsets anyone, I’m just desperate for help.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
If it's any help lamotrigine is a wonder for many people. No anti-depressent worked for me but lamotrigine helped hugely with my low moods.
How much are you on?
"Balance" is the Holy Grail of my own extreme swings. Unlike the medieval knights, I get to sip from my Holy Grail every now and again, but. . . Sigh. . . The extremes swing on. I have to tell myself allot of things to make it through the cycles, That would be where my peer support network is priceless. I get by with a little help from my friends.
Hope you find stabilizing companionship here, Escapade. Welcome to DS
What I see as being the 'beauty' of being in a mental health ward is that all of your concentration is on getting well..... It takes other aspects of life out of the problem so there can be some good there simply concentrating on getting well
I think taking suicide off of the table is important on moving forward.... You can have thoughts and have a plan to get help if you need to and recognize that a thought can simply be a thought
I have had a lot of suicidal thoughts so I do get where you're coming from however I made a commitment to not act on it but to seek help when I needed to and simply see suicidal thoughts as a symptom of the disorder
I also recognize that we have a treatable disorder that can really suck when we're ill
Meds can take a while to kick in so try to have some patience....
Journaling can help vent thoughts
Gratitude has been one of my best tools and the worse I feel the more I know that I need it.... I think of 5 things to be grateful for each day.... It can be as simple as a cup of coffee and a warm blanket
It's hard to feel as bad when you feel grateful
DS is a good site..... Big hug......xo
Take care,
Kat
