I told my boss after my suicide attempt and she supports me completely. Her boss know as well as 2 coworkers. I would never tell them all they would just act all weird.

I would never say a word. I believe i would be viewed differently and when something "went wrong" it would be because of "that". I also find I am an easy "target" at home in my marriage. Most of the people I work with know I'm bipolar....they were there as I had my break down.
Kinda hard to hide my decline into phycosis ..when one afternoon ,I held a knife to my throat,in the break room...

My workplace knows. Its too exhausting to try and hide it, so I gave up wasting the energy and went ahead and let them know what I was dealing with. Originally, it was kind of rough, they gave me a hard time and made my mood swings worse, but I think it was the right thing to do. I've now been here five years, and if I'm in a crash I can be upfront about it and there are no repercussions, since I've proven myself on the job. It definitely made it easier when I elected to have ect and was out on FMLA leave for several months. I came back and didnt have to pretend anything because I'd already made them aware of the situation. Previous job was aware too, since I had several breakdowns and EAP appts, it was tough to hide. Guess I've been lucky. In be tween the two, worked freelance self employed for 12 years, so I didnt have explain to anyone and set my own hours.

I told my manager and he started to avoid me so I made it my mission to freak him out shortly before leaving for better times elsewhere.

I did in the past and was always discriminated against for being bipolar so now I don't tell them exactly what I have but the doctor appointments are difficult. I tell them I see a psycologist but not what for. I have said I need to get my head shrunk and my boss laughs so it works for me.

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear, but you have to be VERY selective about who you tell about your diagnosis. Unfortunately if you tell someone you have cancer, high blood perssure, heart problem or for that matter, anything else - they can relate to it because someone they know has experienced it and what they have experienced to "them" is common by the standards of society.
I am the one person in my entire family that everyone looks up to and I have to admit that when I was diagnosed, I can actually see the difference in the way my own family responds to me. I would NEVER tell my employer. They just wouldn't understand.

I am blesses because I work for an organization that works with people who have mental illness - so they took it as if I had told them I had a headache..
