Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Does anyone else have a problem with people mistaking their Bipolar disorder for depression? I know that it is a silly thing to be bothered by, but I hate it when people say I have depression. I don't. I have Bipolar disorder.
Usually the response to that is "well depression is apart of bipolar" and yeah I agree but it is not the only component. And yes, you can have Bipolar and depression but not everyone does.
My therapist is guilty of doing this, she treats me as if I have unipolar depression even though I have been diagnosed with Bipolar I. Not to say that she is ineffective at treating me, quite the opposite. I just wish she would accept what I have.

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

This isn't something that's ever bothered me however I am BP2 and it's the depression side that's effected more of my life... Pointing out one side or another may be what the therapist thinks she's seeing at the time? do you think perhaps?
It can take some time to find a therapist that you connect with.... If you don't find that this one is helping you perhaps it would be worth asking for a referral to someone new... Big hug and Welcome....x
Depression is one side of Bipolar. Mania is the other. And then there are all the other fun emotions in between!
When I see doc, we talk about my Depression, not my Bipolar.
