Anyone taking Lithuim Anymore?

Feels like the end of the med road for me, nothing works....anyone else on Lithuim?  I am going to do the genetic testing, which will tell what meds work best.  10+ years and 30 or so meds later, & so few things work for me.  Everyone says to "hang in there" because it takes awile to find what works for you....yeah, ok.   everytime I get a med combo right enough, the insurance will stop paying for those meds at some point.  I am ok, though, cause this is not my first eposidic rodeo, so to speak.  Hope all are well.

I've been using lithium since 1979 and it literally saved my life. I've always managed to find something that works since anti-psychotics quit on me after a couple years but I haven't used them for a long while. Hang in there and do what's best for yourself!

Thanks, tommymott. Here's hoping! I have to take anti-psychotics (abilify currently) for psychosis-in addition to the lithium. but the psychosis piece feels under control right now.

Sounds like you're on the right track. When any given anti-psychotic stopped working for me I developed very graphic nightmares and finally figured out it was time to switch. Maybe this won't happen to you but be prepared!

Yup...the road is not fun....if you are on lithium, please drink fluids...cause it's processed through your kidney...I didn't know this, years later, my (current) psy dr kept tabs on kidney function....my Old first starting on the bp road never told me to drink water....

I'm going through yet another med change due to high liver enzymes and my primary care doc wants me to get off the seroquel I've been on for many many years before we start doing extensive liver tests. I have already taken every med out there except lithium, which I've never taken cause of my thyroid problems. But I might have to take it anyway cause it's the last thing to try. People say it's a good drug....just need to have regular bloodwork...

And, another question, how bad is the bloating? I have a wedding dress to fit in 20 days!

Yep, my lithium has literally saved my life. I've been on it for years with no complications. Some mild side effects, but the benefits far outweigh them. Good luck!
