Hi everyone,
I'm in school right now and I'm having a really hard time! My algebra skills are lacking at best, and my teacher is mean and I feel like crying everytime I'm in his class. I also have to deal with the fact that the man who physically assaulted me is always on campus. I feel distracted and nervous on campus. I don't know weather I should just drop out, because I come home everyday feeling worse than the day before. I am feeling self destructive and pissed at myself. I need some love here!

Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...
And for the life of me...WHY does anyone really need Algebra ?
I have NEVEr understood the American educational feilds need to push Algebra !!!!

I hope you are safe. I really really do. As for algebra, if I weren't so far away, I'd help you out. I am good at algebra. I just missed the bus when it came to trig and geometry.
Instructor told me that most people who can do Algebra are clueless at Stats and most that can grasp Stats are Algebra stupidc
Perhaps they will let you have alternative?
I somehow passed grade 12 math, despite the haze of booze, drugs and skipping school. I think Math is actually my best subject. I never used the algebra again.
Then 8 years later I decided to go back to college, and because I passed, I was able to get into calculus. I was lucky I had a good prof, and he insisted on a complete review of algebra in 6 weeks. It was the worst class I ever took, and I was happy to have passed. The prof admitted that calculus was actually easier than algebra and I was pleasantly surprised that it was. I ended up with an A the next semester.
However, in the next 30 years, I have not used algebra or calculus once. Despite the fact that I was in a science program. So I see no use, other than it is a really good brain teaser for those so inclined. In fact, my sons who are engineers and accountants find no use for algebra and calculus. I think simple book keeping, and learning to keep track of expenses would be a much more valuable math class for everyone not just the few math brains who may go on in math.
But you have to do it, so don't listen to me. And don't take it out on yourself because you have an idiot for a teacher. Put yourself in his place. How would you feel, if you had to teach a totally useless subject to kids who had absolutely no interest in the subject day after day, year after year? I guess something would snap in you sooner or later. LOL
I love algebra, but it doesn't love me. I always had to remember the basic formulas and always place them before me so that I could remember them:
PEMDAS-Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction

I wonder if you could drop this class and then take it again after finding a more understanding and kinder math teacher. Once, I took a Statistics class with a true teacher and I made a "B" in math. This "B" was the first "B" that I had made in math since 3RD grade. Although gifted in verbal skill (139), I am only 80 IQ in math. So, I know all about not doing well.........
1. Formulas are all important
2. Practice, practice practice
3. All small progressions are good.
4. Get interested in science as well as math--It helps.......
5. Get an understanding and kinder teacher who can explain things well. Mean teachers suck!!

I remember that the equation of a line is
y=mx +b
"Y" is a coordinate.......M is the slope and "X" is a coordinate, but I can't remember what "b" is.....and that x2-x1 and y2-y1 enters into this.......
Sin and cosin are pieces of a wavelength.....
Flat coordinates are used on horizonal or curved surfaces like roads because the curve confuses the issue.....that's what engineers say.......
My understanding actually STOPS at learning how to plot a line. After that I am so **** it is unbelievable!!
