Went to a new medical doctor today for a check up and the receptionist was ridiculous. I let her know that I was early because the nurse may need some extra time to enter my medications because I have so many between the psych, migraine, and blood pressure meds.
This woman says to me, " you are too young to be on so many meds." I responded by mumbling something about having a mental illness and she says, "you are just stressed. You just need to cope better. Need some teqniques." I tried to explain to her that while those can help, bp is chemical and requires chemicals to balance it out. Then she told me she was 60 and has never needed a prescription for anything. Like somehow that was relevant.
Soo... I am obviously kind if upset. The question is, this is a big office and there is probably a patients' rights advocate. Should I report this lady? Or should I just keep my head down? In reality I can't really go to a different office because of insurance issues, so I don't know if I want to be labeled as a "problem." I am just angry and hurt.

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. if it were me, i'd talk directly to the doctor you're seeing, and maybe ask her/him to have a word with the receptionist. i'm sure the doctor won't be too pleased with the unsolicited and unqualified medical advise being given.
Let yourself cool down a bit , and then I would recommend writing a letter to the main office, or to the Dr, explaining how the receptionist was disrespectful of your conditions and that you feel she needs some training in Diversity .

No one should be subject to this kind of discrimination , and that's exactly what it was
I would also wait till I cooled down and then in a rational way write a note and tell the administrator in charge or Dr. know that she was way out of line.

Second, I'd tell the doctor and the office manager - and hope they apologize and correct her for others!
It's just words - stupid and inconsiderate, I would rather judge her as ignorant and be a bit angry, make a couple calls and forget about it - not worth the time or energy in your brain! ((((BIG HUG))))
Its sucked - and its over, make a couple calls and let it go - hopefully she gets her ass chewed and a lesson in being a receptionist in a doctors office - you never tell people they should be on drugs or a lot - again, just simple ignorance - nothing personal!!!!
Yes, report her. My guess is she's fairly new and thinks because she's a receptionist in a medical facility that she's got a big head, and a bigger mouth ...
So, yeah, first, consider the source, and accept that she acted inappropriately, next, contact her supervisor... tell the supervisor exactly what the receptionist said.
Then, let it go, after taking the proper steps to ensure that behavior isn't repeated toward you, or any other patient.
I was an LPN.(nurse).
She should have been trained in these matters, and if boundaries such as the ones she crossed were stepped over, she'd either be re-trained , or told to find a different job.
Sorry for ranting. I hope you got her name...
