Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I'm fairly new here, I joined about a week ago. I've been Bipolar since high school, but went undiagnosed until 2002 when I'd go from raging in anger, throwing things to crying, then to bouncing off the walls, then suicidal. My pdoc at the time said I rapid cycle, I can go through all the above in a couple days. Later I can get depressed for 3 or 4 months, then everything seems fantastic--except for the fact that I'm snapping at people because everything seems to take too long. I've tried Zyprexa, Geodon, Risperdone and Risperdal before went generic, and Stellazine, those didn't really help me that much. They just caused a lot of weight gain or muscle spasms respectively.
Fast forward to this year. I have a new pdoc since late last year. She allowed me to change to Abilify, I am doing a lot better. At first, I had muscle spasms switching from Risperdone to the Abilify, but that has resolved itself. My pdoc has recommended that I get more exercise to get down to a healthier weight as the other anti-psychotics put me up into the obese range. So I ride an exercise bike, walk, and am going to try to start doing some beginner's weight lifting exercise routines--though some of them look pretty hard. I still need to work out some kinks with my medicine though. I'm on 300mg of Effexor XR, I think that's a little much as the max dose is 225mg, but my pdoc wanted to be on the safe side when I switched to the Abilify.
When I was on Geodon, I felt horrible, was often suicidal and slept about a total of 12 hours a day. But I'm glad I had it. It got me out of the State Hospital 3 years ago and helped take a lot of the psychosis that caused me to be in a mental hospital, and helped me relate better to people.
Finally, I do have one question=does anyone here rapid cycle=one day bouncing off the wall, the next day extremely agitated-enough to cause hypertension-despite being on 360mg of a blood pressure pill every night-then depressed for a week or more?

Hey all, i know its been quite awhile since i posted on here. Its been a summer all right. Its been something else........... You know how they say not to open the can of worms? Well a few months ago i decided to find out what my due date would have been for my first baby, the one conceived by r***. My baby would have been due on March 4th of 2006. They would be 20 years old. I was R**** on June...

Untra rapid cycling and mixed moods are the worst part of this illness. Trying to find the right combanation of medications can take a while, but keep trying...evetually you'll get there, if you and your doctors work together.
You did not mention a therapist, most of have one... it help deal with life and its triggers and learn coping stratergies,
All the best,
Hugs

As am613 said , it is imperative to get the right Pdoc and the right Tdoc and that sometimes can take a few until you find one that you feel comfortable with . Also make sure you get a proper DX.
Switching doses and meds is normal for many psych issues. It's not a pleasant experience, but once you find one that works it's worth it
it took me awhile to find a Pdoc and many of us have here as well, so don't give up or give in to a Dr that makes you feel uncomfortable or not meeting your needs, because there are some very good T and Pdocs out there.
Don't feel your alone ever cause there's always someone here to get you through the worse times and post, post, post, if you need to, as many times as you want, it's never too many, ever!
Good luck and welcome! Great ppl here and you're gonna love the support system we have here as well.
I find breathing exercise sometimes works
Keep doing what your doin!
Take control girl! Kick that BP in the ass lolo!
Looking forward to seeing you more often here.
