I am 25, full time college student, a mother of two sons, and married to a recently unemployed husband (not the root of my problems, but it doesn't make it any easier). I lost my mother in march to cancer, she was my best friend, and partner in crime. She was in remission when the cancer came back and it took her very quickly within 2 months actually. I have had the hardest time handling it. I currently live in my parents house with my family, my younger brother, and my father. Not to mention I am the only woman in the house now. I understand men and woman have their own ways of showing emotions. But in this case, and I am the only in the house with visible emotions. It seems everyone else around me is moving on in a rapid pace but me. My dad has already started dating and I am having a hard time dealing with it. When I confront my dad about it, he looks at me like I am the crazy one, and pretty much gives me the ultimatum, that if I don't like it then I can move out. He wants me to respect his feelings, yet mine have become irrelevant. I have to hear all about the other woman, and how amazing she is, as he flaunts her around and brags about all the places he wants to take her, and he even had the nerve to tell me that she wanted to have a talk with me about how she isn't trying to replace my mother (the nerve); while at the same time he is telling all of my mom's friends about all of her bad habits. And he is literally high-fiving anyone who is in agreeance with him right in front of me. I also confronted him about doing stuff like that in front of me and in public, and he again told "i can't tell him what to do", like a child. I am drowning with so much emotions. Everything is changing so quickly that I haven't even had time to really grieve like I want to. Every day this summer all my dad has us doing is getting rid of all of her stuff. He doesn't even want to look through it, he just wants to chunk it. They were married for 33 years and it almost seems like she was nothing to him. I have taken on a full role of the woman of the house with no say. Everyone wants me to help them with their issues, but no one here wants to help or hear me out. My mom and I used to talk to one another all the time, and when I try to have a conversation with my husband I really never get a true response because he doesn't really relate, and he is pretty stressed out about his unemployment issues. I do have an older sister, but she lives a very busy life out of state. I try to talk to my brother, but he never really wants to be bothered by anything that pulls him away from his video games, or that makes him show any emotions. Lastly I try to talk to my dad and he either never wants to hear me out or after a few minutes of me talking to him he will literally come out and ask me "are you still talking?' There is just truly too much heartache for one post.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

It almost sounds like your father was getting ready to divorce your mother before cancer made its final assault on her. Or it could be that he just wants to put this all behind him fast. Or some of each.
My dad died a year after mom, and he never went through her stuff, but he was getting ready for his grand-daughters and his daughter in law (my wife) to do it. (My sister died before mom and dad passes.)
I agree thought, it surprises me just how quickly your dad is moving on. I doubt that you will get much support (ever) from your father on this issue. sadly the only thing you can really do about this is to stop looking to him for support.
Can you and your husband move out of the house? You have so much going on, and with nobody being able to relate, that has to hurt. Your husband should be more supportive, even though he is mourning the loss of his job. Perhaps you can (jokingly???) suggest that you will help him mourn on even days, and he needs to help you mourn on odd days.
As a male person who was addicted to pinball machines when I was about your age, I can understand your brothers emotional state. He needs to grow up (man up) and face things, but he is going to have to realize that on his own terms.
Sounds like you need to put the emotional halt to helping others deal with their load (except for your husband) and focus on you. You can't make them change by asking them, all you can do is let them know that you need help too, and if they are not going to help you that you refuse to participate in a one way deal. So yes, figure out what you can change, what you can't change, and learn how to accept what you can not change.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
Re your father... I have seen this happen a few times..... I think sometimes it's about burying their head in the sand and also wanting someone to go on taking care of them
I don't think you will get what you're asking for from your father... I agree with Pepper I would start thinking about moving out on your own when you're able ... Your dad is an adult and he can take care of his own needs and he's right you can't tell him how to live his life... It will just create friction...
It 'sounds' like your brother just doesn't want to think about the things he has no control over... I imagine he's just warding off the grief by filling in time with games
There may be grief groups in your area... MeetUp's have groups for grief for instance... I'm glad you've found DS... Another hug and a blessing...xo
My husband and I have discussed that once we are able to, we will find a place of our own and move out. I am too surrounded by my mom living here. I feel things won't get any better living here.
Someone else I know gave me another look inside what's really going on, and right now my dad has money (life insurance), which is giving him a false sense of security making him think everything is great. He quit his job in order to get the house in order and his life on track, and so far all he has done is set himself up for the perfect bachelor life, as me and my siblings still mourn and have the face all of this head on with out any kind of monetary safety blanket.
I continue to cry almost every day, some days worst than others. A part of me thought my healing process wasn't getting any better; but I think the process I am going through is healthy without any dependencies, unless it's an open ear.
I'm sad to think my mother who was an amazing lady is being thought of in this light by the man she was married too for 33 years. She was a high school teacher for almost 20 years. At her funeral there was over 350 people in attendance ranging from students, to friends, to family. I just have such a hard time dealing with the disrespect my dad has given her after she has passed away without any defense. Her only defense is us and we are helpless at his hand until we can get on our own feet.
I am very happy I found this site. I was drowning. Thank you.
I hear you sweetie... My mom was my best friend as well and I miss her all the time
Big hug for you and a blessing...xo
