Asthma Support Group
Asthma is a disease of the human respiratory system where the airways narrow, often in response to a "trigger" such as exposure to an allergen, cold air, exercise, or emotional stress. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, which respond to bronchodilators.
I'm so sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well.
I would think that chest tightness would be normal. I generally don't have a lot of wheezing, and I still get chest tightness often when my asthma flares even without wheezing. I also use a heating pad for the chest pain as well and find it somewhat helpful. May I ask why your nurse did not want to RX nebulizer medication?
It sounds like the nurse is monitoring you closely, but I totally understand your concerns about getting worse. I hope that you see improvement soon!

I am so sorry you aren't well :(
Is your Nurse practitoner allowed to prescribe?
I guess here in the states, wheezing is not normal , it shows a compromised airway and albuterol in some form (inhaler or neb) is usually prescribed (or already in your possession with your asthma action plan)
I can understand waiting on the antibiotics.
I do sincerely hope you feel well soon!
Hugs,
Carol
I would hate to see you get even worse over the weekend without a good treatment plan in place. Perhaps call her tomorrow and see if there is anything she can do?
How are you feeling this morning? I am hoping your fever has broken and you are feeling a little better.
I am sorry to hear that both of your health care providers are not available today. I would think that your next best plan of action would be to monitor yourself very closely, and if needed head to an Urgent Care Clinic or the ER if needed. I know nobody likes the ER, but if your fever continues, or your chest tightness continues it might be a needed step.
Please keep us posted!
Sonny :)
I picked up more saline nebules for my nebulizer. I still am getting low grade fevers, chest tightness is worse(feels like an elephant sitting on my chest), chest is still sore, get shortness of breath. I'm following my asthma action plan by increasing my medications. I'm using my nebulizer with saline for the second time. I called pulmonologist's office to ask if there was anything else I could do. No one called me back. ER is very last resort because they don't take me seriously and make me wait over 15 hours! It would be even worse on a Friday night. No Urgent Care center here. :( I feel even worse when I go to the ER, no sleep, can't take all of my medications, barely eating or drinking. It takes me a day or more to recover from going to the ER!
I am so sorry that you are still feeling poorly. It sounds like you don't have a lot of emergency options for the weekend. I hope that following your Asthma Action plan and getting lots of rest is enough to get you through the weekend, and even more so, enough to help you feel better.
Keep us posted on how you are doing!
I am so sorry you are not well and they let you get so sick before seeing them. They don't give you many options! Did you say you have a ventolin inhaler? How often can you use that?
I know this seems unusual but I know people from the states order meds from Canada. Have you thought of ordering meds from USA? I'm not saying it is the right thing to do but it seems utterly silly to me you have to wait until Monday to even speak to someone. :(
We take for granted in the USA what is easily at our disposal to avoid an ER visit.
I wish you could get a better plan in place with a better MD.
Healing thoughts your way!
Carol :)
