Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Hey all! I hope everyone is doing good, taking it day by day, to be the best version of yourself. No judgment. Just you and being happy for being YOU. :)
I told myself when I started on this group, that I wanted to touch base daily, even if it is to pop in. The last several days have been super stressful. I have felt like I am in this deep, dark hole that I can't get out of. Work is getting to be too much and I am really stuggling to get on track with life in general. It seems like since I had that breakdown in March, I cannot get myself put back together, even if it is not exactly how I want it to be. Time management is a big thing for me right now. I want to fit in things during my day that I do enjoy. The problem is, my anxiety is so out of control, that I shut down. I messaged my therapist this morning, so hopefully she will have something for me to go on.
I do get my work done during the day, but it frazzles me up so much. Thank goodness I am still able to function at work, even if it makes me feel crazier by the end of the day. I am really on the edge of going into shut down mode and I don't know how to begin to turn it around right now. My mind is going in a thousand different directions.
Does anyone have any advice?

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
DVD. Meditate every day.
When life frazzles me to the breaking point, I let that be as compassionately simple a fact as I can let it be. It is unreasonable to expect reason of me today. Safe social distances advised. Don't my freak flag snap you in the but (one "T" or two?) on your way out. Deliberately letting myself go Drama Queen over the slightest inconvenience can be a humorous way to acknowledge the proverbial elephant in the room and the cathartic value is tremendous.
But that is me and ? ? ? Need you further proof that on top of being a CNJ (Certified Nut Job), I am barely housebroken?
Gentle empathy, Wifey. Academic summer vacation is commencing in my neck of the woods. Is it "Summer Vacation" or just another global shutdown? Family expectations and anxieties are all over the emotional and current events map
Please check with your doctor first before adding any of these supplements.
Magnesium is commonly found in laxatives, so you need to be careful not to take too much of it. Here is a list I found of what could happen if you take too much -
diarrhea
nausea and vomiting
lethargy
muscle weakness
abnormal electrical conduction in the heart
low blood pressure
urine retention
respiratory distress
cardiac arrest
I've taken a very small dose of magnesium every day for decades, but it does not help my anxiety at all. But I don't take it for anxiety.
Ginseng is a very strong herb that can react very badly if you are on any prescription medications. Ginseng commonly causes insomnia, dizziness and nervousness. I've never heard of it being taken for anxiety.
I strongly suggest consulting with your doctor first, as certain herbs can be dangerous if a person isn't knowledgeable on what mixes with what. Just looking out for you.
If you want to take something for anxiety, consult with a psychiatrist for anti-anxiety medication. The ones called benzos gets rid of the anxiety in 20 minutes and lasts for 4 hours. The SSRI's are once a day medications, that give a milder, longer lasting effect.
1. Work. Try to be present-centered, just working on what you can control.
2. Read the Seven Habits of Effective People. There's one quadrant with doing work and another with long-term planning (a man was busy cutting trees but his blade was dull, can't you sharpen it, don't have the time he replied.
3. Timesavers, getting rid of unusually difficult or demanding people, charging them for added services, breaking down programs to determine what steps are involved and which could be reduced 6 Sigma type analysis,
If this is your own business, you should consider an assistant, U.S. or overseas, and ways of delegating work.
Questions
My wife has suddenly after difficult problems with a house sale become withdrawn.
1.. She does not want to talk with or interact with her friends though I believe that will help.
2. Sometimes she becomes frozen or resistant to things that will help her like seeing a doctor and can become resistant to taking advice and has preconceived notions of her condition, unlike the way she has been for the last 30 years.
3. She lost about 25 pounds and looks much better but will not acknowledge that and does not seem to want to get new clothes even though I said we could allocate money for it.
GirlinCalif- I actually go to my doctor on Tuesday for a follow-up with my blood pressure issues. I am actually on quite a few meds for my bp, anxiety & depression, so I will talk to him about it before making any moves. My meds have actually been increased since the episode I had at the end of March, and even though my bp is finally back under control, my anxiety and depression haven’t improved. It has been a rough couple of months, for sure. I do thank you so much for the advice!
Bobby- It doesn’t take much for me to withdraw. I have actually been doing that for the last couple of weeks, finding myself trying to push other away. Honestly, I haven’t found much of anything to be too helpful with it, but finding this support group has really helped me. It has actually helped more than I thought it would.
I have always been one to go to the doctor, actually to the point to where I sometimes feel like a hypochondriac. I used to be bad at not wanting to take advice because I thought I knew better or could do my own research. That proved to be extremely difficult. I finally found myself being more open to others advice and now welcome it with open arms. I believe it took complete desperation for me to get that point.
Kudos to her for the weight loss. I am sure she looks absolutely amazing! It is really hard when you have a particular mindset on how you see yourself. I have suffered from one eating disorder and that was only 9 years ago. I still have triggers to this day. My self-esteem has always been terribly low, but I am slowly learning to love myself. My best advice is to compliment and try to be patient. I have found certain books on self-love to be very helpful (and I was always very negative about that stuff). Meditation and yoga really help me too.
My husband feels helpless all of the time. I feel terrible for it. His support is more than enough for me. I know I am not fighting this battle alone, even though there are days when I feel Ike I am. It has been within the last couple of months that I have been trying to look into alternative methods of helping my well-being. Research is key.
Sounds like you are doing a great job. Every day is a challenge, believe me, I know. All we can do is our best.
I was just curious about your therapy.... as I think therapy really helps with combatting anxiety. I believe you said you have an online therapist, through an app. Have you looked into getting an in person therapist? The online therapy apps such as Better Help and Head Space are okayyyy.... but reviews I have read about these apps didn't sound too great and people were saying that the advice they give is too general and not specific to a person's individual needs. Other people left reviews about it being too generalized in their advice and suggestions and homework, and that even though you can send as many messages as you want, they only get back to you once a week and you might have different therapists each time and not know?? I could be completely wrong. I have not tried either of these two apps. I find individual in-person therapy is effective in addressing my individual, personal issues. Anyway, just a thought. Thought I would mention this to you.
You're doing great. Keep up the good work!
God that has given me the greatest insight to myself. I used to withdraw and just hide, but I refuse to give into my anxiety. In fact I am much more optimistic than I was just a few days again. I don't feel the same as I did even a week ago though I have barely taken my first steps on this new road. We are never alone! Look in the mirror each morning and compliment yourself. Tell yourself that you're a good person and that you love yourself. We will rise above our issues.
Manny- how are you doing with the mediation? I am still finding it a little difficult, but I do have more moments of being in the present and feeling totally relaxed. I know it takes time and lots of dedication. Do you have any particular bible studies you can share, or scriptures? That is a great way to work through your anxiety. I am trying to learn to fully love myself and I do know that I am a work in progress…and that is ok! Yes.. we absolutely will rise above our issues!
