General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I lost my temper with my 4 year old foster daughter this morning. While I was brewing my first cup of coffee, she came to me asking for help in finding her TV remote. AGAIN! ! ! The continual search for lost remotes is pretty high on the list of things I hate about high tech life. I helped her, but I ranted abusively during the entire search. Thankfully, it wasn't one of the meaner remote searches I've endured. We found it with fair efficiency and I was able to get back to my caffeine fix before acting out my irritation got too awful.
I went to apologize to her while I waited for my second cup to brew. The incident got me meditating anew on how apology just might serve my own emotional stability even more than it smooths inter-personal relationships. The act of making amends while the psychic wounds are still fresh helps me be more gentle with myself for the crime of being human while keeping it clear in my own head that it is not okay to hurt other people. Yes, it happens and is part of life, but it is not okay. A gentle apology smooths the way to a fresh start for all.
So I am thinking right now. . .
Thoughts, opines and/or reality checks welcome.

If we know we have done wrong, we have a moral obligation to request forgiveness.
Allowing ourselves to be kind to us even as we acknowledge that it is not acceptable to be mean, hurtful, is healing both in mind and body.
So proud of you for sharing this, Arfie. That cup of coffee and television remote is common in our household. We worked together to find a safe place to put the remote that we can see to check for the remote as needed during the day and at the end of the night.
In the case of apologizing to children, I wonder if I am also teaching them how to apologize. Children learn what we do far more than they learn what we say. Mistakes happen. Validate the hurt, make your amends and move on.
We've established safe places for the remotes. Now to work on the habits of putting them there. . . When I hear my age peers complain about their aging memories, I ask them how long it has been since they've had to get a kid off to school in the morning. Memory problems personified. . . My 66 year old memory is hard drive solid next to a 4 year old's.
In many cases, apologizing is quickest way I know to end and argument. I am not sorry for thinking differently than the person I have offended, but I am sorry they are offended. I gain nothing from creating more conflict in the world. Peace be with you, Ma'am/Sir. Arguing with a fool only proves there are two fools.
