Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

Morning everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on how to deal with anxiety at work. I have a mostly office job, so I'm sitting a lot of the time writing reports. The problem is that I have a very hard time focusing and concentrating on what I'm doing. My mind wanders; I'm distracted by all the noises, coworker's voices, the copy machine, etc. I think of something I want to look up...like a banana bread recipe, and I suddenly cannot think about anything else until I've stopped working and found the recipe.
The result of all of this distraction/procrastination is that I get panicky anxious because I'm obviously supposed to be completing my work, but I'm not and I know eventually someone will notice and I will get in trouble, so I'm anxiously anticipating something that hasn't happened yet. And I start the negative self-talk because, why couldn't I just be an adult and do my work like a normal person?!...Then when I finally finish something, I can't stand to look at it anymore, and it's late anyway, so I pass it along, and it comes back with all of these simple mistakes that I should have caught...continue negative self-talk....
Continue the anxiety train until it inevitably crashes in a fiery ball of craziness.
I'm thinking that I'm not alone in this, so my question is, what techniques do you use to keep yourself productive and on track at work when your anxiety distracts you?
Thanks

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

First, write out those distractions on a sheet, and keep focused on work. Every time you find your distraction, write out single word or phrase, and back at it.
Second, write out your normal task time (important, so you can keep track of distractions later after work), and mark off what you do.
Third, focus on work appearance. Keep your work area organized, and in place.
Yes, I had a desk job, and I was distracted by all sorts of "clutter". I left the "clutter" on my sheet, and was able to get the work completed. That was my goal every day.
Best wishes!
I eventually got a counsellor, and antidepressants - and that made a world of difference. The anxiety/distraction thing was medicated away.
and look for another job. It could just be the 5 yr itch. how long have you worked at this place?
