Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Family member taking Effexor, seems to have at best modest results. She still has considerable anxiety. This is her third anti-anxiety drug but she only took the other two for about a week before believing they don't work or had side effects.
She believes the drugs caused anxiety, and she was quite functional and high-performing for 65 years. I think her psych wants to increase the dose while she wants to get off, but still has tremendous dysfunctional anxiety.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...
So much of anxiety is about feeling a loss of control. Since she wants to take the Lexapro (and it is a fine anti depressant/anti anxiety medication), then start there. Take this one step at a time. I know you have been trying with her for awhile already, but I hope the Lexapro will be one step in the right direction toward helping her to feel better. People can be on the so-called "wrong" medication, and then they try a new one and it can make such a huge difference.
Example - I have a family member, she's in her 30's, she had real bad debilitating anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, could not leave the house and had to have someone with her 24 hours a day. She was married with 3 kids and could not function at all for so many months. After trying a couple of SSRI's that didn't work, she tried Zoloft, and it was like a miracle for her. At 100 mgs a day now, she is basically "cured" and is out doing all kinds of things, working, driving, happy, having her life back again. My point is.... it can be just one drug that changes everything in a person.
Worth giving it a try... I hope that the Lexapro will help your wife.
Does your wife also go to therapy?
Best wishes and hang in there.
