Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a good night! I am going to share a little information about myself before I get started. I am currently a junior in college and I got diagnosed with GAD and mild depression at the beginning of January. I always had suspicions that I suffer from a mental illness, but I never had the courage to get the help I needed. I got prescribed 10 mg of lexapro at the beginning of January and it has been a rollercoaster for me. I never thought I would ever want to go on medicine for the rest of my life, but here we are! The first 3 weeks were horrible. I could not sleep, my anxiety was through the roof, and I had trouble eating. I almost quit the drug cold turkey because I did not have any more hope left in me. After sticking with it, I am finally seeing the positive effects of this drug.
I went from feeling hopeless and like my life had no meaning to finally becoming optimistic with my mental health journey. I still have a long ways to go, but I am happy to be able to share my experience so far.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Thank you for sharing your story. That is very normal... the SSRI types of medications, such as the Lexapro you are taking, can take 4-6 weeks to start seeing the benefits from it. I wish they had told you that from the beginning. Good for you for sticking with it! You will only get better and better from here on it. The beginning is the hardest part and you made it, yay!
And keep in touch with the prescribing doctor about it, because they might have you increase it, to get even more good benefits from it. But ask them first about it. 10 mgs is a very low dose for Lexapro. Once your body gets fully used to it, you might have to take more of it. But you would be fine if that happens, because you have already gone through the "bad part"... the beginning part of taking the medication.
Good for you!
Hoping you continue to get better and better. Welcome to the group.
GAD and mild depression are commonly diagnosed in college. The first time away from home, completely responsible for all your choices, and the impact of knowing you are you can throw anyone into the "loop of words".
