I mean, I got pretty lucky. I didn't get born on a third world rubbish dump. I don't have to sniff plastic for $1 a day. I don't have to work in a nike sweatshop in china. I wasn't born in the victorian era and made to be a chimney sweep. I didn't die of cholera in a damp, freezing london slum.
I did alright. I do have an anxiety disorder, and it sucks. And I have some other problems and they also suck. But none of it sucks half as bad as having to wear a burka and have to get married to some greebly old man at the age of 9.
I have to provide for myself; but I'm not a widow in india, kicked out of the family home, having to go begging in the streets. I might feel like a social failure but I'm not a dalit, of the untouchable caste, shunned by all society and forced to pick up human faeces off the street for a few pennies a day.
I know this sounds like a pompous old woman saying 'be thankful for what you've got' along the lines of 'eat your dinner there's kids starving in biafra you know!' - but I actually am saying it, because I actually mean it.
I've had some bad stuff happen to me, and I didn't like it. it was horrible. But I am nevertheless glad I am me. I am nevertheless glad I have been given this life, and not one of a million other far more awful lives.
And meanwhile, there are a lot of people with anxiety issues. So I'm not alone. And I'm not suffering more than they are; in fact I think I suffer less, because I let myself suffer, I say 'this will be over in a few days' and I expect to learn a life lesson from it. I was kind of kept away from reality fora while there, so it's understandable that I wouldn't know everything about it. I just have to keep learning, and keep overcoming the attacks. Keep crying, keep sleeping, keep drinking water.
