I'm not sure what forum this could go into but I need to talk about this to someone. I take care both of my parents who are ill. I'm 28 years old, work part time and when I'm not working... I'm taking care of them. I barely go out so I don't spend money like crazy.
My mom has 1 leg, barely any eyesight, and recently almost had to get her other leg amputated as well as severe depression & anxiety. My dad has cancer, balance issues, severe depression and anxiety as well as other mental issues. Recently with my mom almost losing her leg, she has a lot of hospital stays and doctors bills. I must have 40+ bills in front of me...most doctors know our situation and either haven't billed us, billed us small amounts or just told us to take our time.
Well today I got a letter to appear in court because one of the doctors (who was terrible and just wanted to amputate and didn't even really consider any other options) billed us $230... I already paid $72 of that because I was told "if I just pay some of it - even if it's a dollar - they can't sue because you tried." Quite frankly, the guy doesn't deserve a dollar. I can't believe they are taking us to court over $144. Does that sound ridiculous? I mean I never had a problem like this with any doctors and I really am trying hard to not go on Medical Bankruptcy. They didn't even send the bill to the collections agency.. is that normal?
I'm just so stressed about this. I am trying my hardest and I am just drowning and the last thing I need is this idiot doctor who we only visited once to take me to court. I mean my family doesnt even have a stove, dishwasher or washing machine - we are not well off whatsoever. This is not what I need.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
Is there anyone here on this site who knows how things work where you live? I'm in New Zealand, I don't know your systems.
As a first move I would phone the doctor's secretary and ask what can be done about time payment. I would ask her why this has gone straight to court, explain your situation. Maybe they can do something. Otherwise you're going to get in trouble with court costs.
I thought Obamacare was all about helping out low income earners?
My first suggestion would be to contact your local congressman representative for the help available from government agencies to get this resolved.
The second suggestion would be to report the incident with this doctor to the medical review board of your state for their investigation into the practice accounting and billing (there's a lot involved to medical coding issues and this is one of the easiest methods to get it resolved quickly).
You are working part-time, and you're struggling as full-time care-giver with no outside support, so there may be options available in your community for help with outreach advocates and volunteers.
You are not alone in this.
I agree with the above, I would call and ask why this escalated so quickly. I would also send them a written letter asking for a written response and send certified mail just in case. Its always good to get information in writing for yourself.
Don't let them intimidate you, you have rights so don't be afraid of them. Also, yes calling your Member of Congress is an excellent idea! Keep us posted. HUGS.
NJ has a lot of crooked wacky people I should know my relatives are from there.
Don't worry bout it. Theres a site or anyway type in keyword "need help paying bills" for NJ find a free lawyer for seniors. They will actually call the doc and negotiate or fend off that crooked son of biootch doc so you wont have to pay a dime. Good Luck!
My mom is on social security, medicare but - get this - someone with no leg and barely no eyesight - government won;t let her get disability because she doesn't have enough disability points. Ridiculous...
I will definitely take all these suggestions and try to do them
