Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I am a recovering chaos junkie. Being raised in the back of a station wagon with 10 other siblings in a traveling, over-sexed freak show pretty much made chaos addiction a coping mechanism for me. Prison cells were the most stable environments available. Stability was a frightening proposition. Fast forward a few decades and stability means being trapped in the Toxic Mom role by abusive expectations.
Over the course of the 2 years of my current transition into my second parenting career, stability has come to mean simply knowing what to expect when the 3 young orphans (currently 2-8 years old) wake up in the morning and go to bed at night. The long hours between waking and bedtime are beginning to feel predictable enough that I can actually plan activities and carry through on the plans. Sometimes. Works in progress. Even the Corona politics are feeling a bit less menacing to our stability. A little. Sometimes. Adding hypodermics full of untested vaccines to their arsenal has made the maskites scarier than ever, but at least there has been a partial return of indecently exposed smiles. Where there are smiles, there is hope.
More and more I believe I am at the stage of the transition where, herstorically, my fear of entrapment has begun its self-sabotage antics. Am I building myself another Toxic Mom throne? Am I creating community contacts which will eventually morph into mean, inflexible stereotypes and expectations?
Am I making sense? Anybody else dealing with self-sabotage in their recovery, up close and personal? There is a plethora of detached expert advice on the subject. I can and do research those on my own. Any strictly personal stories from fellow patients who have worked the phenom from the inside? Personal experience is much harder to come by than expertly detached theory.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
I found myself doing it in relationships. I'd always find something wrong and blow it up. I started doing that with Roomie. I wasnt putting myself in his shoes. Hes a human being with struggles of his own...how could I find fault with that?
I find myself thinking about what went wrong in my daughters estranged relationship. I made mistakes. There are no perfect parents. Dont be hard on yourself. You should be proud, from what I've read, I think your doing the very best you can. It's all anyone can do.
From what you've talked about here, I think you are doing a great job. Very attentive and careful with your
new "charges" and the process of dealing with all the dynamics during this pandemic.
I hope you can take a deep breath and just deal with it all 'one step at a time.'
You're doing a great job - and I don't think you are in a pattern of self sabotage - I think you
are on an expansive journey where there will always be new elements. Each child you're caring for
is an individual and they will teach you new things about themselves and yourself as well.
We all make mistakes but I know you are determined and tenacious about your responsibilities
and all that you take care of. Peace Arfie.
I still reflexively self-sabotage and don't believe that is always a bad thing. There remain times it is better to cut my losses and start over. E.G. My fears of the "maskite invasion." My emotional reactions to being called, "Mom" in by or in reference to the GKs.
I guess the biggest thing I watch for in my self-sabotage reflexes is my tendency to throw proverbial babies out with the bath water. Balance in all things.
Or am I justifying again? ? ?
