Amygdala hijack is a real thing. It comes on slowly and next thing you know you have anxiety and maybe some anxious thoughts.
The other thing that can trigger anxiety out of nowhere is hormones. I suffer from hormonal imbalance and before my cycle hits, loads of anxiety! It took me years to put 2 and 2 together. Went to an endocronoligist and she confirmed it all with labs. I had my blood taken so many times for tests I hated it. But, I learned why I get this spike of anxiety for a duration. It comes on slowly, and I have to remind myself "oh is this a hormonal change right now.?" Usually it is. Or "OK why am I anxious? It's not a hormonal change so what gives? Oh it's because I have a million things to do today and I was triggered by my coworker who did XYZ" so then I say to myself "OK I am stepping away from my desk, to either take a walk, load the dishwasher or something, then go back to my desk and make a list"
I think recognizing what created the anxiety is the first step. Its a lot of reflection. I did this Friday. I lost it with anxiety. I was up until 230 am figuring out what triggered it, creating a plan to stop it. Yeah it was a rough Friday haha! It was not fun getting up Saturday at 8am with my daughter.
in my own case, i was born into a domestic war zone with such high levels of stress and danger that i was addicted long before i could say, "adrenaline." i attribute my unexplained anxiety attacks to this phenom. if the attacks persist, i will do a detox diet for a few days to purge the adrenaline from my system.
